Back in June BBC's
Doctor Who began filming their yearly festive event, their Christmas Special. The title and the synopsis about the episode are still to be released, however we do have an indication that one of the key characters in the special will be a superhero. It has been confirmed that
Dragonball Evolution (2009),
Shamless (2011) and
War of the Worlds (2005) star Justin Chatwin will be playing the part of the as of yet unnamed Superhero. However
Little Britain and
Alice in Wonderland (2010) actor, Matt Lucas has been confirmed to be reprising his role as Nardole.
Justin Chatwin tweeted out his "last day" at BBC studios on 30 September, two weeks after suppsedly travelling to Wales. (Where Doctor Who is mostly filmed at in the studio's set in Cardiff). It has also been confirmed that he will in fact holster special abilites, rather than be just an average Joe being labelled or branded a superhero. It is also rumoured that he will keep his American accent and have a very charismatic personality with one website claiming him to be Han Solo with superpowers. Thus being compared to that, he's supposed to also have a broad knowledge of
"interstellar secrets of one sort or another,” leaving plenty of more questions into who exactly he is supposed to be. Now as much as it would be cool to see a
Booster Gold typed chracter in Doctor Who (not to obviously mention DC own the rights to that character), we can only speculate that Steven Moffat the lead showrunner will be making his take on his superhero, more closer to an original character.
The Christmas Special is to be aired on
Christmas Day on
BBC America for US watchers and
BBC 1 for UK viewers.
