Fans of the long-running sci-fi series haven’t seen any new material since the New Year’s Day special that aired months back, but after a long wait, the BBC has finally released the first trailer for series 12 of Doctor Who.

As expected, the exciting footage sees Jodie Whittaker return for another go as the legendary Time Lord with her faithful companions Graham O'Brien (Bradley Walsh), Ryan Sinclair (Tosin Cole), and Yasmin Khan (Mandip Gill) along for another string of adventures.

Of course, in typical Doctor Who tradition these won’t be easy-going adventures, the foursome will have to deal with a bevy of alien threats, including a mysterious threat the Doctor claims is coming for her.

In addition to teasing the return of Judoon, the latest trailer also teases the roles of Lenny Henry and Stephen Fry, who will be making guest appearances in the upcoming series.

Guess I'll copy/paste this again; Suppose we won't know what we want to know until the season gets here — whether she's got anything to her this time. It was good trailer, seems a lot more Doctor Who-ey than last season. Can't really ascertain much other than:

- Jodie looks great in that suit.
- That Cyberman looked really damn great.
- There's a shot of Yaz with a policeman beside her so hopefully her skillset will actually come up and be useful.
- Jodie seems more confident in the role, just based on the "The name's Doctor, the Doctor."
- No Christmas special again.

Fingers are tightly crossed.

Looks good, though I hope we get normal cybermen. Chibs can't really be planing on using scrap metal versions for both of the most classic villains in the series.

I have high hopes for this series to be a return to form.

Sort of ready to bring all the modern doctors back together.
Matt Smith hitting on himself would be a nice chuckle.

And someone make nice with Eccelston to get his butt back in the Tardis!

Looks good, I thought the cast and production value last season were really strong. That being said I'm hoping Chibnall will take some more risks and deliver some truly great episodes, the majority last season were watchable but the stories always turned lacklustre at the end.

Really hope Chibnall steps it up this season. Huge Doctor Who fan but 13 was poorly characterized, got too little attention in her own show, and the series itself was mostly mediocre apart from 3 or 4 episodes.

I like Jodie as the Doctor, but the fun just wasn't there last season.

Am I the only one that forgot Dr. Who was still a thing...?

I kinda remember them announcing the female Doctor and then it fell off the radar completely in my neck of the woods.

What was the verdict on Lady Doctor?

@Batmangina - underwritten and lost in the background of her own show due to too many companions fighting for screentime. She pulls too heavily on the 10th and 11th incarnations and has struggled so far to find her own identity. It’s a shame because they do have a talented actor in the role

@MrDandy - It seems like everything since 10 and 11 pulls too much from 10 and 11.

I thought they kinda dropped the ball on 12 shortly after launch and never recovered but WTF do I know, I'm a 3rd and 4th Doctor kind of guy...

@Batmangina - ...Not really Capaldi was the complete oposite of 11. He was a older, cranky man with witty cynicism and sarcasm, and a morality that allowed no-names to die for the greater good or for those he really cared about.
