Thankfully, The CW has already renewed Black Lightning for a second season, which means next week's season finale won't be the last we see of Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams), but that doesn't necessarily mean he's going to make it to the new year completely unscathed.

While the synopsis doesn't reveal too much, it does do its job in setting up a pretty epic confrontation between Black Lighting and Tobias Whale (Marvel Jones III), which should make for some damn good television.

Watch the new promo for the season finale, titled "Shadow of Death: The Book of War," below:

"Shadow of Death: The Book of War" - (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET) (TV-14, DLV) (HDTV)

THE SHOWDOWN - The aftermath of the showdown with Black Lightning (Cress Williams) leaves everyone reeling. Meanwhile, Tobias (Marvin Jones III) gathers his forces. Nafessa Williams, China Anne McClain, Christine Adams and Damon Gupton also star. The episode was written by Charles D. Holland and directed by Salim Akil (#113). Original airdate 4/17/2018.

Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) is a man wrestling with a secret. As the father of two daughters and principal of a charter high school that also serves as a safe haven for young people in a New Orleans neighborhood overrun by gang violence, he is a hero to his community. Nine years ago, Pierce was a hero of a different sort. Gifted with the superhuman power to harness and control electricity, he used those powers to keep his hometown streets safe as the masked vigilante Black Lightning. However, after too many nights with his life on the line, and seeing the effects of the damage and loss that his alter ego was inflicting on his family, he left his Super Hero days behind and settled into being a principal and a dad. Choosing to help his city without using his superpowers, he watched his daughters Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Jennifer (China Anne McClain) grow into strong young women, even though his marriage to their mother, Lynn (Christine Adams), suffered. Almost a decade later, Pierce’s crime-fighting days are long behind him…or so he thought. But with crime and corruption spreading like wildfire, and those he cares about in the crosshairs of the menacing local gang The One Hundred, Black Lightning returns — to save not only his family, but also the soul of his community.

Black Lightning features:
Cress Williams as Jefferson Pierce/Black Lightning
China Anne McClain as Jennifer Pierce
Nafessa Williams as Anissa Pierce
Christine Adams as Lynn Pierce
James Remar as Peter Gambi
Damon Gupton as Henderson

Black Lightning returns with an all-new episode April 17

I really hope that Lala sticks around into season 2, really like that character. Since Tobias wants to get rid of Proctor, perhaps that's where the season should end, leaving Tobias also for season 2 and leaving the ASA broken but not gone...

Good episode even though some parts were confusing like Lala's entire behaviour which has not been explained. One moment he is running things and lecturing his goons then he gets a phone call from Tobias supposedly and he goes to threat the guy Gambi threatened (did he kill him? If so then that as is as much as Gambi's threat went) and then he is brought to Tobias but obeys when with that "key word" he said. I hope in the finale some answers come up about his resurrection.

Seems Tobias has been planning things for a while.

I wonder if the Shawdow Board is an alias of some sort to the ASA given Tobias wants to take out Proctor. But even if he does it, Proctor isn't THE leader nor founder of the ASA, he's just in charge of the Freeland section.

Anyway whoever wins that next week will control all those sleep subjects.

Barely any Anissa besides the fight with Syonide which was cool. Syonide must be some kind of...metahuman hybrid with tech considering how much she took from Thunder.

I hope Thunder or Jennifer gives Khalil what he deserves. But if Tobias threatened me with shoving down my back implant through my throat just like he did it with Jefferson's father then I would also obey. So advanced tech to make him walk plus those pills which for me are obviously Green Light = new threads and regen.

Tobias came prepared for Black Lightning. And Jennifer almost messed things up with her wording. Then again considering she realized her sister and her dad were acting weird I say she would have noticed that they were back together.

It has been a good start. I hope they get a longer episode order for S2.

I like how this season is going. I don't think anything will be resolved in the finale, and this whole season is to setup season 2. Which is totally fine with me. It's been done well. There's alot of potential with this show, what with all the potential metas in the pods, lots of different heroes and villains that could be brought in.
Also, it seems like LaLa is supposed to be a version of Tattooed Man. So who is Khalil supposed to be? Is there someone from the comics that he might be?
