Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) is a man wrestling with a secret. As the father of two daughters and principal of a charter high school that also serves as a safe haven for young people in a New Orleans neighborhood overrun by gang violence, he is a hero to his community. Nine years ago, Pierce was a hero of a different sort. Gifted with the superhuman power to harness and control electricity, he used those powers to keep his hometown streets safe as the masked vigilante Black Lightning. However, after too many nights with his life on the line, and seeing the effects of the damage and loss that his alter ego was inflicting on his family, he left his Super Hero days behind and settled into being a principal and a dad. Choosing to help his city without using his superpowers, he watched his daughters Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Jennifer (China Anne McClain) grow into strong young women, even though his marriage to their mother, Lynn (Christine Adams), suffered. Almost a decade later, Pierce’s crime-fighting days are long behind him…or so he thought. But with crime and corruption spreading like wildfire, and those he cares about in the crosshairs of the menacing local gang The One Hundred, Black Lightning returns — to save not only his family, but also the soul of his community.

Black Lightning features:
Cress Williams as Jefferson Pierce/Black Lightning
China Anne McClain as Jennifer Pierce
Nafessa Williams as Anissa Pierce/Thunder
Christine Adams as Lynn Pierce
Marvin "Krondon" Jones III as Tobias Whale
Damon Gupton as Inspector William Henderson
James Remar as Peter Gambi
Jordan Calloway as Khalil Payne/Painkiller

I liked the episode and judging by next week things aren't going to slow down.

Jefferson was not having any of Looker's arguments specially when he pointed out her confederate flag in her basement. And she's confirmed to be one of the original metas from the pre-Green Light vacinne the ASA spread 30 years ago.

I knew he was faking getting electrocuted because back in the pilot he only charged up when the cops tased him without his new suit. And he can also fly just with one hand while holding a baby in the other.

I can't recall if Jefferson went back to retrieve the baby he left in Henderson before joining Anissa to defeat Looker, likely so, it would've been funny if he left it in his care for a while.

I thought Looker went to Freeland in a vehicle but nope she had all the powers that her enslaved Sange did, strenght and super speed. Fight scene with Anissa was cool, it reminded me of when she fought Syonide. (I still miss her)

Seriously thought that she had killed Looker when she impaled her with that throwing but must've knocked her out if the Sange were released of her Element-mind control. I bet her racism is why Jefferson doesn't care in delivering her to the ASA, seems fair. But I hope she returns, she's interesting, power-set at least.

The reverend is on his own after Khalil warned him multiple times to leave Freeland at this point if he is caught by Tobias, you can't say he didn't try over and over.

The therapist should actually listen to Jennifer when she wants to tell her about the Khalil situation, didn't get her apprehensiveness in not wanting to know or hear it. And while it's true Jennifer's powers can be quite formidable I am a little too worn out on the whole "never see anything like this before" tbh. But the way she helped Khalil in the end escaping Tobias' men shows that she's finally getting comfortable and confident with her powers.

Only weird thing was how out of nowhere Anissa and Grace were back after she kinda used her to get off while she was grieving Gambi's supposed death. Maybe it'll show up in a deleted scene. Anyway, she can only hide her powers for so long before they come out.

Jefferson telling Gambi that he's his family and needs him back officially among the living when he confronted him was touching. (Just like in The Flash's family scenes with that said) Glad that he's back with them judging next week.

The next episode looks as good as this one.

Who is the Oracle? Is that a character from the comics?

good episode. but smh Khalil for picking out the least inconspicuous car which they, i assume, stole from Tobias. I'm worried about Tobias potentially learning of Jennifer and Kahlil man, cause if she's forced to use her powers against him, Tobias is gonna realize that her dad is Black Lightning. I can't wait to see where they take this.
