BLACK LIGHTNING Season 2 Character Breakdowns Reveal A New Love Interest, Villains And More

Season 1 of Black Lighting introduced us to the Pierce family as well as a number of other characters, and now Season 2 will expand the cast even further with new villains and more allies for our heroes.

The first season of the CW’s Black Lightning introduced audiences to a number of new heroes and villians, and while  many of them will be returning for the second season, the series is also set to gain some new cast members.

Now, thanks to some character breakdowns from That Hashtag Show, we have some details on some of the new arrivals to the city of Freeland.

The first role is refered to as “Perenna” and is a therapist in her 40s or 50s with telepathic powers. Her role in Season 2 will largely involve Jennifer Pierce, as she will be helping the young metahuman understand her powers.

Along with this ally, the show may be getting two new villains. There is “Zlovac” who is a Caucasian male in his 30s and a partner to Tobias Whale. Then we have “Dr. Jace,” which may be a codename for DC Comics' Helga Race. This character is a computational chemist in her 40s and a “highly manipulative baddie who may or may not be a sociopath.”

Yet, it won’t just be Black Lightning facing trouble, as his civilian identity of Jefferson Pierce will have to deal with the character currently called “Major Lowry,” who will be replacing Jefferson as the principal of Garfield High.

Finally, we’ve learned that Annisa will be getting a new love interest in the form of “Zoe B,” a social media savvy young woman “filled with confidence and edge.” There’s no word on what this means for Chantal Thuy’s Grace Choi, who was romantically linked to Thunder in the first season, but it sounds like their relationship is facing some trouble.

So, what do you folks make of these new additions? To share your thoughts, comment below.

Got through half the season before I gave up. Wasn't interested enough in any of the characters or storylines.

I tried watching this and gave up. I lost interest in all the CW shows this past season. I'd been watching out of habit, not because I was enthralled. I really think these shows would be much better if they cut the seasons in half. They just drag on and lose their appeal with way too many filler episodes and content.

Wow! Dr. Jace? She was The Outsiders' resident doctor/scientist ally until it was revealed she was a Manhunter the whole time who had infiltrated them and then tried to kill them.

Lots of unused potential with this show. Great cast, strong budget. Pales in comparison with Luke Cage. Cage has darker themes and a feeling of real threat to the characters. However, this moves faster and has more fun with its comic book origins. The writing could improve on the less important players. They often serve no purpose other than vocalizing the plot as pure exposition. Hope that sharpens up in Season 2. But count me in.
