Next week, get ready for a father-daughter showdown as Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) is forced to confront Anissa (Nafessa Williams) about how she's been handling her superhero business, which has been fairly reckless to say the least. Meanwhile, Jennifer (China Anne McClain) will continue to try and understand her abilities while it looks like Lynn (Christine Adams) may come under attack, which means the episode could be shaping up to be one of the most intense of the young season.

Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) is a man wrestling with a secret. As the father of two daughters and principal of a charter high school that also serves as a safe haven for young people in a New Orleans neighborhood overrun by gang violence, he is a hero to his community. Nine years ago, Pierce was a hero of a different sort. Gifted with the superhuman power to harness and control electricity, he used those powers to keep his hometown streets safe as the masked vigilante Black Lightning. However, after too many nights with his life on the line, and seeing the effects of the damage and loss that his alter ego was inflicting on his family, he left his Super Hero days behind and settled into being a principal and a dad. Choosing to help his city without using his superpowers, he watched his daughters Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Jennifer (China Anne McClain) grow into strong young women, even though his marriage to their mother, Lynn (Christine Adams), suffered. Almost a decade later, Pierce’s crime-fighting days are long behind him…or so he thought. But with crime and corruption spreading like wildfire, and those he cares about in the crosshairs of the menacing local gang The One Hundred, Black Lightning returns — to save not only his family, but also the soul of his community.

Black Lightning features:
Cress Williams as Jefferson Pierce/Black Lightning
China Anne McClain as Jennifer Pierce
Nafessa Williams as Anissa Pierce/Thunder
Christine Adams as Lynn Pierce
Marvin "Krondon" Jones III as Tobias Whale
Damon Gupton as Inspector William Henderson
James Remar as Peter Gambi
Jordan Calloway as Khalil Payne/Painkiller

@blitzburgh - You know a show doesnt need non stop action to be good, one of the best episodes of Buffy The Vampire Slayer has no action at all

The episode was good and I think it has been building since the premiere with small developments that are going to explode next week.

Tobias is super salty, although understandably, about Syonide's death and is taking it out on every way with Khalil. And he just took his first life although it seemed by accident from that underling of the 100, but to me he seemed to compartmentalize it pretty well. He must be getting used to living as Painkiler, much to Tobias' certain amusement.

I am still sure Agent Odell is waiting for Lynn to make any mistake and at the first slip he will use Dr. Helga Jace to take over and do whatever he and the A.S.A. wants with the Green Light Babies. She seems cold-hearted just casually stating that it was 10 people that lost their feet plus one casuality and not nine. But Lynn is her warden as long as she has that chip in her ankle so the pod kids are safe for now.

Jefferson and Lynn actually screwed up here by not telling Jennifer they and Gambi had hired a metahuman psychiatrist to make her talk her feelings, but at least the former acknowledged it and comforted her. Maybe once Perenna is done with Jennifer she will be ready to suit up or at least will have better control over her powers.

I also love how Jennifer roasts her sister (literally and figuratively) while also giving her good advice about love, she's my favourite Pierce sibling for that. She is knda wise beyond her years.

New director seems to be racist or maybe he's just a stuck up, let's see for how much longer he keeps the job around.

Jefferson had some payback from Khalil from last time and managed to get what Gambi wanted in order to develop antidotes from Painkiller's darts: one of them that hadn't yet been activated. I bet it is going to play a role next week when Khalil shoots Lynn with one. (And I spot Issa in the preview when it happens too)

Developments with Gambi too cause now he's into Anissa's Robin Hood's crusade, he is going to have to answer to Jefferson soon too once the cat is out of the bag and Fowdy is finally back, but unconcious.

I missed how exactly Henderson caught Tobias. Unless Tobias planned to be caught, I am going with the last one. With him now going to be interrogated and Fowdy back it is only a matter of time before the contents of the A.S.A. briefcase come to light.

And Jefferson and Henderson need to hug it out.

(Also that pic from Jefferson's former principal office had him wearing a Superman t-shirt)
