Following this morning's extended synopsis (see below), The CW has debuted the first trailer for their latest DC TV show, Black Lightning.

We begin with Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) putting the superhero life behind him to focus on being a husband and father - but the former crime-fighter can only stay out of trouble for so long before being dragged back onto the streets.

Check out the teaser, and let us know what you make of it.

Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) is a man wrestling with a secret. As the father of two daughters and principal of a charter high school that also serves as a safe haven for young people in a New Orleans neighborhood overrun by gang violence, he is a hero to his community. Nine years ago, Pierce was a hero of a different sort. Gifted with the superhuman power to harness and control electricity, he used those powers to keep his hometown streets safe as the masked vigilante Black Lightning. However, after too many nights with his life on the line, and seeing the effects of the damage and loss that his alter ego was inflicting on his family, he left his Super Hero days behind and settled into being a principal and a dad. Choosing to help his city without using his superpowers, he watched his daughters Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Jennifer (China Anne McClain) grow into strong young women, even though his marriage to their mother, Lynn (Christine Adams), suffered. Almost a decade later, Pierce’s crime-fighting days are long behind him…or so he thought. But with crime and corruption spreading like wildfire, and those he cares about in the crosshairs of the menacing local gang The One Hundred, Black Lightning returns — to save not only his family, but also the soul of his community.

I like the premise, but to be honest it is no Luke Cage..........

Also it would be cool to see his daughters suit up!

@JoeMomma29 - That glimpse of fighting at 1:40 makes me believe the staging/choreography of action will be better than Luke Cage. Story-wise, we'll see. Certainly looks better than the second half of Luke Cage.

@JoeMomma29 - And also him sharing the same workspace as The Flash while in the CCPD. And yes, I know that he's not in Arrowverse but come on.

Not too familiar with the character of black lightning, but this looks ok. I'll give it a shot for sure

this look to be the best one cw has produced, keep it as a standalone to, the other shows will make it cheesy. This look to have a menace 2 society mixed with a super hero feel to it.

@GothamLegend - I think there was potential in making it a part of that world that just wasn't as closely tied to the rest of it. That way, they'd have given themselves the option of playing with some of the other characters and plot elements without being confined by them.

OK! Not bad! This looks really promising. I'm iffy on the mask, but the tone, setting, and characters look great.

I like it.

Good action and seems he is doing it all by himself.

But I recognized some the sets from the other shows despite not being connected...yet?

Can't wait.
