DOOM PATROL: Things Get Even Weirder In The New Promo For Season 1, Episode 2: "Donkey Patrol"

Saw the first episode and it was really good, much better than Titans' premiere and I have no trouble admitting it. It did help that Cliff, Larry and Rita had their intros in Titans of course but here the entire premiere and their interactions were better handled and written. I liked as well that the show is brighter and had a decent amount of color and lightning in the scenes like the Arrowverse shows and the Netflix Marvel ones and not so dim and dark like Titans and even AoS, don't like when everything is literally dark colored.

Robotman feels like the main character but I don't mind because his plight was relatable and you found yourself rooting for him through the episode but the other members (at least Larry and Rita) aren't either that un-relatable.

But I also think that like with Titans DC here tries too much at times to be in-your-face mature to prove it's worth and differentiate itself with Marvel's streaming shows. Let's just say that introducing your first Doom Patrol member by a flashback in which he was cheating in a very explicit, HBO-esque sex scene on his wife and once again show later a scene like that again isn't exactly the best way to tell to your audience that "yep this is a MATURE superhero show", sometimes less can be way better. There were sex/heavy toned scenes in Marvel Netflix (Luke Cage, a bit in The Defenders and in The Punisher S1) but nothing that was ever explicitly shown unlike here were you get a clear shot of female nipples so, yeah. Couple more F-bombs as well than in Titans too, especially from Crazy Jane.

But moving besides that the rest felt good. And DC Universe does have budget as seen in Negative Man's scenes when he suffers his accident, then later, Rita's powers too when she loses her shape and Crazy Jane doesn't stay behind, they obviously are not going to hold back in showing the extent of her 64 personalities. And Mr. Nobody and his black hole at the end are just the final nail in the coffin. So with all of that said it really does make you wonder why they went with such a "dimensionalized and psychologically grounded" approach to their first show, Titans. A lot of the things they did here could've been used as well there, like with Trigon's new form. So it is puzzling why this show got the budget and Titans didn't.

The music and theme for the team is very Titans-esque as well, Clint Mansell hits very similar musical notes in the opening, which in itself is good and could end up getting stick in your head.

Enjoyed how the rest decided to back up Robotman instead of leaving him behind. And this does take place after Titans or well right after Beast Boy left, it's all in the present.

So with that said I'm down for Doom Patrol. Seems their first fight with Mr. Nobody will be to close that black hole.

Can't believe they actually got together faster than Titans haha.

Good episode, already shaping up to be better than Titans.
