...and down the rabbit hole we go!

TV Line is reporting that Benedict Samuel has joined the cast of Gotham season three as Jervis Tetch a.k.a. the Mad Hatter! It's uncertain when he'll make his series debut, but Fox & Warner Bros., in a joint announcement, described him as "a talented hypnotist teetering on the edge of madness. He arrives in Gotham with an unwavering desire to find his sister, Alice, a young woman who went missing in the city years ago.

He's the fourth major acquisition for the hit superhero prequel drama, which is having quite the offseason, having already added James Carpinello (The Punisher) as Mario Falcone, Jamie Chung (Once Upon A Time) as Valerie Vale, and Maggie Geha (Ted 2) as Poison Ivy.

Samuel is best known for his roles as the Alpha Wolf on AMC's post-apocalyptic horror drama The Walking Dead and as Felix Crawford on the Australian miniseries Secret City. He also had a role in Robert Zemeckis' The Walk.

So, what do you guys think of the casting? Sound off with your thoughts below!

The stakes are higher than ever as Gotham explores the origin stories of some of the most ambitious and depraved Super Villains, including The Riddler, The Joker and Mr. Freeze, and Bruce Wayne uncovers more secrets from his father’s past.

Gotham features:
Ben McKenzie as James Gordon
Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock
David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne
Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth
Morena Baccarin as Leslie Thompkins
Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot
Erin Richards as Barbara Kean
Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle
Cory Michael Smith as Edward Nygma
Chris Chalk as Lucius Fox

I really just wanted a Gordon-Bullock cop show...pre-Batman.

I like this show, but I'm surprised it's as popular as it is with the GA. Too bad it has to compete with MNF for ratings or else it might be a real juggernaut.

@blackandyellow - It's popular with the GA because they aren't invested in Batman & his mythos as an avid comicbookmovie fan. Most of my co-workers enjoy it, but they aren't into comics. They just know the basics, Bruce Wayne's family was killed when he was a child, grew up, trained and became Batman. They don't know about Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Damian Wayne... They eat up whatever these sources will give them. Some even ask, hey, "I didn't know Riddler used to work with the police before he became a criminal"... If Batman NEVER existed in any type of media, I would say Gotham was an OK show... But Batman does exist... And this show is SACRILEGE!!!

@megabatfan - there have been so many different takes on characters and off the wall stories over the past 7 decades that I really just try to take each of these CB shows at face value.

I enjoy most of them. My DVR is always set for Flash, Gotham, Supergirl and LOT. I just can't get into Arrow. My Favorite LOT episode however was the one with Older 1 arm Ollie. I had just recently watched the Dark Knight Rises so I thought they did a great job with him. I liked that Ollie much more than the one we get on a weekly basis!

I love how Bruce's going to be fighting the syndicate of Senior citizens by the time he's fully Batman

@TheSoulEater - Bruce is 15, most of his foes are 25 ish. It's really not that weird.

With all those Batman rogues they're using, they should have ditched the young bruce aspect, and go straight for a year zero or year one batman, but that you never really see. Keep the point of view of new Comish Gordon and his partner, trying to solve their cases and deal with nutjobs, while finding criminals beat up and batarangs sticking in the walls once in while, forming the anti-vigilante task force, then slowly build the relationship between Gordon and Batman. And just have Bruce pop up once in while on TV or in a gala, or on the cover of a magazine, and a few sightings of the Batman from afar, in the shadows.
Instead they're messing up the chronology of things for no reason whatsoever than because they can. And probably because they can't use an actual grown up, costumed Batman probably.

He's a great talent. He'll fit in the show quite nicely. Better to jump on board with this version since we didn't get GOTHAM CENTRAL like we all wanted. This show isn't perfect but it's better than Arrow and Supergirl.

He was one creepy dude on TWD, so I approve of this casting.

But this show really went down the shit-hole last season, and I don't think anything can save it.

Can someone please show me somewhere where it says batman and his rogue villains are all the same age and/or age range?!

This show is awesome! There hasn't been any comic hero show/movie that follows comics exactly 100%.

@VENOMguy420
The age difference isn't the question. It's the question that does Batman create the villains that he fights. It's a cycle. The criminal element (thugs, murderers, mob bosses) of Gotham created him, but he inadvertently created his Rogues (Joker, Hush, Bane, etc). Christopher Nolan's theme of escalation in the Dark Knight trilogy understood this.

@KingEmperor - EXactly agreed 100% that Batman makes these rogues become full blown villains we all know and love...BUT they didn't just turn into a life crime bcuz of batman.

They had to have had a criminal background/history before batman comes and pushes them over the edge. Hence the Gotham show. I don't know if u watch the show but if u did you would understand that they r barely scratching the surface on these major villains. This show is pretty much about how Gotham's villains first start "turning to the dark side" so to speak. Just like how Bruce Wayne is barely getting to become righteous and full of justice. He was trying to kill his latest killer for Pete's sake and we all know batman don't kill. He is being molded just like the rest of the villains.

Anybody hear about the threats Leslie Jones has been receiving on Twitter? It's downright disrespectful and it has gotten too far with all the hate. I understand they may not like the movie's direction, but no person should go insulting and photoshopping pictures to make somebody look bad just because of these vile, man child "ruined my childhood" fanboys can't get over a summer blockbuster movie.

@stephhurry - Don't misunderstand me, I would've put a stop to this new Ghostbusters film if I had the ability, no joke there. But actions such as your example above are simply f**king deplorable and the people responsible should have their clock cleaned behind a dingy gas station somewhere. "People" like that are a shining example of why the human race may always be a petty, disgusting sort.
