Once the fan favourite Proto-Joker met his demise at the hands of Azrael in Gotham's sophomore season, viewers demanded that the character return in some fashion. The character, Jerome Valeska, was finally resurrected at the end of the third season's Mad City arc, but was promptly locked in Arkham Asylum once his brief role in the storyline concluded. Now, if you have been eagerly anticipating when this character would once again make an all-too-rare appearance on the show, you should rest easy knowing that you won't have to wait any longer... Jerome will be returning no later than on this season's fall finale.

ALLIANCES ARE TESTED ON THE ALL-NEW FALL FINALE OF "GOTHAM" THURSDAY, DECEMBER 7, ON FOX

Things get complicated for Gordon, Sophia and Penguin when Carmine Falcone (guest star John Doman) comes to town. Alfred tries to get through to Bruce once and for all, while Nygma struggles to gain control over The Riddler persona and Tabitha attempts to make Grundy remember his past. Meanwhile, a familiar smile resurfaces in Gotham in the all-new "A Dark Knight: Queen Takes Knight" fall finale episode of GOTHAM airing Thursday, Dec. 7 (8:00-9:01 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (GTH-411) (TV-14 L, V)

Guest Cast: Michael Cerveris as Professor Pyg, Cameron Monaghan as Jerome, John Doman as Carmine Falcone, Anthony Carrigan as Zsasz

Earlier this year, EP Bryan Wynbrandt stated that Jerome won't be the actual Joker, which shouldn't come as too much of a shock considering that several potential Jokers were introduced in the first three seasons: "He's obviously not the Joker himself, although we clearly seems to be the impetus that eventually creates the Joker. The more that we see him, the more he carves out his own path I'd say. I wouldn't say he becomes more the Joker, but the Jerome character continues to evolve. I think that's what makes him so exciting is that he's not the Joker. He is Jerome." Even in the comic books, no one knows for sure how the Joker came to be, including the Joker himself, who prefers to keep his past "multiple choice." As such, every canon attempt at an origin is soon retconned or contradicted. Perhaps the show will take a similar approach? Gotham returns Thursday, November 30, on Fox.

JusticeLeague was far from perfect, but it was so damn good. Superman was the best, and as a comicbook fan, i'm really happy that we're getting all these characters. As a fan, i would Say that i like more Marvel for all it's effort. But with JL, i see hope to the DCCU.

@bigdannymac - What are you doing talking about Gotham in a Gotham article? Everyine is supposed to be talking about Justice League. Didn't you see the comments?

So is he really going to be The Joker when it’s all said and done?

@superbigguy32 -
Read the article. It literally gives a definitive answer to your question.

@superbigguy32 - Despite what the Gotham EP said, it's a pretty safe bet Jerome will turn out to be Joker. When talking about the role, Cameron Monaghan referenced Mark Hamill playing "the character". That shows that regardless of the current EP, someone convinced the actor that he was playing the Joker.

@Nightwing1015 -
No, it's not even close to a safe bet. For one, the Executive Producer blatantly stated that Jerome is not the Joker. Monaghan is an actor, and knows nothing besides what's in the scripts and what he is told. And for two, Jerome was always going to be a red herring (which is why he was killed to begin with... and brought back only by popular demand).

And why do you think his "Joker-isms" are only homages to previous actors that have played the character? Frankly, Jerome was never the be-all, end-all for The Joker.

@Darkknight2149 - Correct me if i'm wrong but the EP that made that comment only joined the show recently. He wasn't on the show when Jerome was introduced so he has know way of knowing what the character was meant to be. Jerome was intended to be the Joker from the start. They very first promo he was in introduced him with the tagline "Gotham's next villain is no joke". He continuously gets Joker storylines on the show as well. Taking over Gotham broadcasts, running a circus and the "faceless Joker" arc. And as I've already pointed out, at some point the actor was told he was playing the Joker. I'd imagine the showrunners keep it vague because they don't have the rights to the Joker but it's clear they intend him to be the character from his personality and story arcs.

Yes, we all know he's a Proto-Joker (one of the several introduced in the first two seasons). It's a question of whether or not he's THE Joker we all know from the comics. It has also now been seemingly confirmed that he is a red herring, something readily apparent when he was first killed off.

@Darkknight2149 - Yeah I think there;s evidence for and against him being the Joker. I suppose only time will tell.

Obviously he's not the Joker, he's just a random criminal who looks and acts exactly like the Joker. Duh!
