Following the news that DC Universe's Stargirl has added Joel McHale as Starman and Lou Ferrigno Jr. as Hourman, we have word that the live-action DC Comics adaptation has now cast another founding member of the Justice Society of America.

According toEW, Henry Thomas (E.T., The Haunting of Hill House) will appear in the recurring guest-star role of Dr. Charles McNider, a.k.a. Dr. Mid-Nite. This small-screen take on the Golden Age hero is described as a "brilliant and forward-thinking medical pioneer, and a founding member of the JSA. With his trusty owl, he acts as the team’s resident doctor and detective."

A different in incarnation of this character, played by Kwesi Ameyaw, appeared in season 2 of Legends of Tomorrow.

Stargirl follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore (School of Rock and All Night‘s Brec Bassinger) as she inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new drama will reimagine Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in an unpredictable series.

Stargirl is expected to premiere on DC Universe next year.

I started the CW crossover event over the weekend. I still have to watch the last hour, but Amell's acting has really improved since I stopped watching Arrow a few years ago.

@blackandyellow - Arrow still rocks! Hopefully it will go up to 10 seasons.

Very excited for this show, I wonder if they are going to do the classic version of their costumes or a an updated look.

@JoeMomma29 - It's hard to predict with DC Universe shows. Titans updates their costumes while Doom Patrol pretty much takes them straight out of the comic.

Seems like this is turning out to be a prequel to the Titans continuity, based off the JSA.

WOW! So they're actually doing the JSA! Hope it's the 90's-2000's era. Wonder if we're getting Alan and Jay

So Doctor Mid-Nite will be recurring? I wonder which JSA characters will be the regulars ones with Stargirl.

I hope if the Arrowverse characters ever get the chance to handle the JSA they take some notes from whatever Stargirl will do with them.

@NinnesMBC - Arrowverse already did the JSA.

@NinnesMBC - There's always Crisis on Infinite Earths. Anything can be retconned and corrected. I love the JSA and the Arrowverse, but I wasn't the biggest fan of their version.

@NinnesMBC - Yeah the Arrowverse had the JSA and they weren't done very well imo

@Snowbirdd - The problem is the JSA never got a chance to do anything. And they killed off one of their members by the end of the episode. Plus they missed an opportunity by not using Jay Garrick.

I hope Dr Fate is in this. CW gets a lot of flack for their leather costumes, but I think he looked darn good on Smallville. I know it's not on CW, but this is the only other live action Fate I could use as an example

@comicfan100 - The costume is actually solid!

@comicfan100 - the chest padding was a bit much for me but I agree he looked fairly well. There Hawkman though I did not like at all. Visually i mean of course, the actor did what he could with it.
