We've known for a while now that Stargirl's second season would feature Eclipso as the DC TV show's next big bad, and the character has now been cast along with surprise secondary villain, The Shade.

Deadline reports that Nick Tarabay (The Expanse) will play the series regular role of Eclipso, while Jonathan Cake (The Affair) will recur as The Shade. Ysa Penarejo (Project Mc2) has also joined the cast as "an undisclosed DC character."

This small screen take on powerful DC villain Eclipso is described as "an ancient entity of corruption and vengeance. Brimming with a cold, terrifying darkness, he exploits the flaws of others, reveling in the impure and sinful, sadistically feeding off the dark side of humanity."

The Shade, meanwhile, is "an English immortal. Tall and slim with an elegant 19th Century way to his speech and manners, he masks the horrors he’s experienced and people he’s lost in all the time alive with wry, witty retorts and a false sense that nothing really matters."

"I’ve always loved the character, and he’s a very different antagonist or villain than the [Injustice Society of America],” creator/EP Geoff Johns said of Eclipso, adding that The Shade is “the most powerful of them all, and very threatening because no one knows exactly what he wants.”

What do you guys make of these casting additions? Season 2 of Stargirl is not expected to premiere until next summer.

I wonder if they'll be forced to cut Eclipso if he's in Black Adam.

Eclipso and Shade, damn the JSA is going to have their hands full next season. plus Shiv will still be around. I read the Stars and Stripe comic, first season was a pretty spot on adaption of it, while adding the jsa to the story. Guess next season will be a completey original story

Not sure why Shade is a surprise, they showed his picture and did a clear "Shadow" effect during last season.

Shade was great in the Justice League animated series as a recurring villain. Still haven't seen this show, but it sounds like it was decent

@Dredd97 - Really? He seemed kind of a goofball.

@Battabing - he was a foil. I don't remember him being a goofball though. It has been a while since I've seen the show

Season 1 was very good, raising the stakes and maybe adding more heroes to help the JSA?
