Character Descriptions For CBS' SUPERGIRL Reveal Some Major Changes From The Comics

Casting has begun for CBS' upcoming adaptation of Supergirl for both the titular role and...her sister? This is going to be a very different take on the DC Comics property, but it sounds awesome.

Like most DC Comics characters, there have been a number of different Supergirls over the years with various origin stories. In "The New 52", Kara Zor-El arrives on Earth in her late teens/early twenties, but in the upcoming CBS adaptation, she actually arrives at the age of twelve. According to the official description, this version of the character "was sent from her dying home planet of Krypton to Earth, where she was taken in by the Danvers, a foster family who taught her to be careful with her extraordinary powers. After repressing said skills for more than a decade, Kara is forced to bust out her super moves in public during an unexpected disaster. Energized by her heroism for the first time in her life, she begins embracing her abilities in the name of helping the people of her city, earning herself a super moniker along the way." It's clear then that  Supergirl will take on her heroic persona pretty early on, but whether or not Superman exists in this world isn't clear. Casting is currently taking place, with a Caucasian actress being eyed between the ages of 22 to 26 to play the 24 year old Kara Danvers (no relation to Marvel's Carol Danvers, we're sure).

That's not the only leading role that CBS are currently hoping to fill as they're also looking to cast, "26-year-old Alexandra “Alex” Danvers, Kara’s gorgeous, brilliant, science-minded foster sister. Growing up, Alex was partly jealous of her sibling yet also fascinated by her abilities, prompting Alex to learn as much as she could about alien anthropology, sociology and culture. Today, Alex works for a secret government organization and, alongside her heroic sis, will face many challenges, both mundane and super." These are obviously some major changes to the source material, but it should be interesting to see how the pilot (written by Ali Adler (No Ordinary Family) and Greg Berlanti (Arrow) comes together. We know Supergirl will fly, but will she be wearing a costume? Be sure to sound off with your thoughts on these details in the usual place!

I'm pretty sure she will at least wear a transitional Supergirl costume, they won't repeat Smallvlle's major mistake ever again.

Dianna Agron or Claire Holt would be perfect for Kara. I really hate how it sounds like it will be the Linda Danvers version of Supergirl. I wasn't a fan of that portrayal, but hopefully Supergirl will just be using that last name. Instead of being like that version of Supergirl.

I'm fine with the backstory changes its the name that bothers me. I mean they had to have known what they were doing. Kara Danvers and Carol Danvers plus the fact that they look similar? I mean come on.

Alexandra “Alex” Danvers? So she's definitely being set up as a Lex. As in Lex Luthor. Wow. Her bio sounds just like him too.

And it was definitely confirmed early on in this show that Superman DID indeed exist in this world, but now it looks as if they may have changed that.

So they're just making a Superman show but changing the gender/names? This could be okay or terrible
gambgel

and Supergirl now having another master of science on her side?

This is getting too repetitive, Dc. Green Arrow, Flash and Supergirl all have a master of something on their side, its getting predictable and a tired formula

DANVERS?! WHAT A CLEAR REACTION TO CAPTAIN MARVEL'S ANNOUNCEMENT!

Never mind this show started up months ago! It's all a conspiracy :P

Conspiracy theorists will say they named her Danvers, hoping that more people will watch it not knowing its a different character than the one Marvel just announced. That DC is trying to take advantage of the name Marvel is using in a Live Action Film. The problem with that theory, is that the fans are the only ones that will truly know the difference until the film comes out, and we make up a very small percentage. So........now, why would DC give Marvel free publicity with the name Danvers? More people will be more familiar with the name, even if they are two different characters. Makes no sense whatsoever. This is why the Shazam movie will be called Shazam. Why would DC want to use Captain Marvel? They know that would make no sense.

The description they gave for the show originally was

"Based on the characters from DC Comics, Supergirl will follow Kara Zor-El. Born on the planet Krypton, Kara escaped amid its destruction years ago. And since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be."

So Superman's GOTTA exist in this world..........dosen't he?????

wtf? this sounds terrible. I love Arrow, so dont get me wrong, but we are still only getting Batman and Superman (with the exception on Flash) I mean, all in all, Arrow is actually Batman. Everything about the show screams Batman. Supergirl looks like it going to scream Superman in the same manner. Seems like the TV execs can't use Bats and Supes so they just change other DC characters to fit that image. And Danvers? seriously? Just [frick]in use Kent. SMH
