SUPERGIRL Faces Slight Delay To Early May; New Promo Released For Season 5, Episode 17: "Deus Lex Machina"

Along with a new trailer, The CW announced last night that Supergirl has been pushed back yet another week and will now return on Sunday, May 3rd at its usual time.

The hit superhero series is currently in the middle of its fifth season, which had its production abruptly halted due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. While filming had concluded on a vast majority of the season already, the finale had yet-to-be shot, so it seems increasingly likely that the show will now be forced to wrap up without a proper finale until the fall, at least.

Another major factor that will play into how the network maps out the remaining shooting schedule for seasons five and six is Melissa Benoist's pregnancy. She's due in the summer and was previously slated to begin shooting the first few episodes of season six before the summer break, but those plans are now likely to have changed.

The next episode will see Benoist make her directorial debut, and will actually be quite Lex Luthor (Jon Cryer) centric as we learn more about how he rose to power so quickly in this new multiverse.

MELISSA BENOIST MAKES HER DIRECTORIAL DEBUT – Lex (guest star Jon Cryer) proceeds to lay an intricate plan to bring Lena (Katie McGrath) closer to him, defeat Leviathan’s latest attack, and pit Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and team against Leviathan. It is also revealed how Lex came into power after Crisis. Melissa Benoist directed the episode with story by Lindsay Sturman and teleplay by Katie Rose Rogers & Brooke Pohl (#517). Original airdate 5/3/2020.

Season four showed that truth, justice and the American way are stronger than fear and hate, as Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) stopped Lex Luthor’s anti-alien campaign with the power of the press, no cape required. As the world returns to normal, some things will never be the same now that Lena (Kate McGrath) knows Kara’s secret and the Monitor has arrived on Earth 38! Watch, like Leviathan, as new dynamics and relationships unfold for Supergirl and her friends and colleagues as their adventures continue in season five!

Supergirl features:
Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl
Mehcad Brooks as James 'Jimmy' Olsen/Guardian
Chyler Leigh as Alexandra 'Alex' Danvers
David Harewood as J'onn J'onzz/Martian Manhunter
Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor
Jesse Rath as Querl Dox/Brainiac 5
Nicole Maines as Nia Nal/Dreamer
Azie Tesfai as Kelly Olsen
Andrea Brooks as Eve Teschmacher/Hope
Julie Gonzalo as Andrea Rojas/Acrata
Staz Nair as William Dey
Erica Durance as Alura Zor-El
Jon Cryer as Lex Luthor

Yep this was quietly reported yesterday but now that updated promo will let everyone know. The only issue is that the date for the finale is on Sunday May 17th (or was it 19th? Can't be ‘cause that is Tuesday and that is when Stargirl will debut in Flash's schedule) so we will just have 3 weeks of new episodes. Unless the final episode is longer than usual.

Anyway that promo is one of the best ones of the Season. I am feeling a game changer.

About the episode itself: Do we really need this explained to us?
We already know Lex used the Book and his leverage with the Monitor to rewrite history and his destiny. I'm afraid this is going to be pure filler and not the good kind. More Cryer on screen is always welcome, but I'm more interested in moving the plot forward.
