This was a pretty good episode.
I love the idea that while Kara is trying to find her independence as a hero outside Superman's shadow, Jimmy is struggling to operate without the Superman safety net.

And while I didn't really like her at first, Calista Flockheart has been quite enjoyable as Cat Grant.

Enter hotness personified: Lucy Lane.

Loved the cameo by Superman and the little online chat between Kara and Clark at the end.

Oh, Jimmy, that little slip you had regarding Superman's alter ego:

Alright, so now Jimmy Olsen (Superman's best friend) is kinda dating Lois Lane's sister but has feelings for Supergirl who is Superman's cousin. To top it off, the villain in tonight's episode is the husband of someone that died on Superman's watch????? That's it, I'm done with this show. Was hoping this show could stand on it's own without having to keep reaching into Superman's characters in every episode.

Also, turns out Supergirl is popular with men and women, just about evenly!

"But the latest comics-inspired TV series has an audience that's nearly evenly split between men and women. That's a rarity in the male-dominated superhero genre."

@jj72,

You do realize that Supergirl is Superman's cousin, right?
And once that was revealed it made sense that people would come gunning for her. This is why heroes need secret identities; to protect those close to them. Supergirl doesn't really have that luxury. His enemies could become her enemies.

1. Jimmy Olsen has traditionally been a love interest of Lucy Lane. They've always been an on and off couple.

2. Reactron's first appearance: The Daring New Adventures of Supergirl (June 1983)

He's a classic Supergirl villain who's also fought Power Girl, the Doom Patrol, and Superman.

Some people hate Arrow....4 seasons and counting.
Some people hate Flash....2 seasons and counting.
Some people hate Gotham...2 seasons and counting.
Some people hate Supergirl...see where this is going?

Your hate amounts to...SQUAT!
Conclusion...do what you keep saying your going to do, and stop watching these shows you hate so much.
The END.

The show has potential but they have to improve the fight sequences. She is cute though.

So far this show hasn't gotten my interest yet, but I'm giving it a few more chances. I really want to like it, but damn the writing annoys me.

I think the show needs to get to a point where they tone down the constant Superman references. Fighting some of his villains is fine. Constantly mention what Superman did or would do may make some sense, but all it does is constantly remind us that this isn't a Superman show, and not in a good way. More importantly, having many of his supporting characters or their analogs (Maxwell Lord/Lex Luthor lite) keeps Supergirl under Superman's shadow, which only serves to make Supergirl seem like Superman-lite. She needs to feel different, not just in personality or alter-ego, but also in what she brings to the world that Superman doesn't. How is she a different hero? Sure, they may want to approach her as a younger, female Superman. But there needs to be something more to it than simply "she's a younger, slightly more diverse Superman."

They do need to tone down the Superman references because it's getting a bit annoying. I'm surprised by this show though, it's been good so far. Supergirl has some thick legs and nice are and that's enough for me to watch lol.

@TheAmbassador

Be Superman
Shows up for 5 seconds(in blurry vision) against a guy he has never beaten ever
Never touches the guy and lets him get away
Leaves Nuclear Maniac alone for weaker cousin to fight

The show's fine, I'll keep watching. But what bothers me is the amount of "Superheroic Posing" she does.

Chris Reeve was smart he said...

"I wasn't quite sure what I would do as Superman, so I decided that I would simply let the costume do most of the work. The technology was developed to make me look incredible, but that made it easier in that I could underplay the part," Reeve told The Mirror in 1978. "So I thought, the thing to do is not do too much. Don't pose or overact. Just be Superman."

Cavill Did a similar thing.

Wish jimmy's character was like the source..
I feel like they need to switch Jimmys n Kara character... Kara a bit confident n Jimmy all clumsy n silly ..yet charming.

So what's the big deal if Superman's villains appear on Supergirl? They're creating their own Universe. No one complains when several heroes share the same villains in the comics, but in live action it's a no-no. I really don't get you people.
Last night's episode was very good. Especially as the corny dialogue was kept to a minimum. Now stop referencimg "my cousin" every damned minute & i'll b find. I get it already, Superman exists. Let Supergirl do her thing.

Gotham: the show with all of Batman's supporting cast, but no Batman.
Supergirl: the show with all of Superman's supporting cast, but no Superman.

The references to the Big Blue Boy Scout are natural. Same bitching we hear when the Avengers are referenced on Agents of SHIELD.

Look, want superhero shows without referencing larger events going on in the world involving other superheroes?

Go back to the 1970s Hulk show. No integrated universe there. Live it up.

As for me, I get a fangasm when these references are dropped.
