Remember in True Detective when Mathew Mcconaughey is talking about time, and how perhaps after death we see time as a circle, and our former life as a human being? No? I suggest watching it, but this reminded me of The Swamp Thing.
What better movie to expand the already growing DC universe than The Swamp Thing? He's always been one of my favorite lesser popular DC heroes, and who better in our day and age to spotlight than a gothic horror hero that defends our enviornment (and kills mad scientist mutations and such.)
The Swamp Thing is better as a hero that not only battles monsters in a swamp, but also as one who battles philosophical questions of existence itself--such as the swamp thing's dilemma. Now who wouldn't want Mathew Mcconaughey as an edgy, philosophical Alec Holland turned monster that tromps through muddy water and wrestles alligators? We would want to hear the swamp thing thinking these questions and perhaps reflecting on his former life as a scientist--should you approach your x-girlfriend in the state you are in? Yes. And why wouln't Mathew want to don this title--he deserves to be a superhero. The Swamp Thing isn't for anyone but Mathew Mcconaughey IMHO.
We would want the Swamp Thing to be dark and serious fitting in with the so far DC universe, and at the same time be an actor that could fit in the DC universe--I actually think Christian Bale was one of the best superhero castings ever, but Mathew as Swamp Thing could be equally compelling to me. Here are some basic reasons I believe Mathew Mcconaughey to be The Swamp Thing:
1. Southern Accent good for The Swamp Thing's location.
2. He can have blonde hair and it works (as Alec Holland).
3. His build and facial structure perfect for swamp thing costume.
4. His philosophical ramblings and ideas he often has in film make him the perfect heep of biological plant matter that would question its own existence.
5. He's edgy and serious enough to fit nicely into the recent DC universe movies and could really make The Swamp Thing a compelling superhero.
