The sudden cancellation of Swamp Thing after just one episode sent shockwaves across the internet, resulting in all sorts of speculation and rumors regarding the future of the DC Universe streaming service. With WarnerMedia launching its own streaming service, there's worry that DC Universe might not fit into the company's overall vision.

DC Universe, via Moderator Applejack in their Watchtower community forum, has issued a response to Swamp Thing's cancellation. Applejack reiterated that the full 10 episode season of Swamp Thing will continue to air on DC Universe, but added there are "no current plans" for a second season. Unfortunately, that's as far as the response went.

"We appreciate there are questions as to "why", but unfortunately we are not in a position to answer at this time," he said. There were reports that miscommunication led to a problem with the tax breaks the show was supposed to receive for filming in North Carolina, which the Director of the North Carolina Film Office, Guy Gaster, directly responded to

Also addressed in the post was the future of DC Universe, and Applejack confirmed that the streaming service continues to develop new shows, seasons, stories and more. "We’ve got a lot of exciting plans for our other shows in the works, and look forward to sharing more in the coming months," he said.

"That's all the information I have to share at this time. Now that you have the goods, we will be going back through the threads and removing the false rumors and speculation that this choice means DC Universe or any of our other original series were affected," the post concluded.

So it seems it's business as usual for DC Universe for the time being. The second half of Young Justince: Outsiders debut in July, with a Harley Quinn animated series starring Kaley Cuoco as the titular character set to premiere in October.

Turns out the tax rebate thing was wrong, and AT&T execs wanted something closer to the CW. Titans is terrible and one of reasons is because it feels like edgy CW, so even though Swamp Thing will only last a season, it'll still be better than it could have been.
At least we still have Watchmen from HBO coming up, and that's run by different (much smarter) people.

@MrCamw1 - I really, really like it! First DC show I've liked since Batman '66, Matt Bomer put so much pathos into his performance as Negative Man. Really dug the two Swamp Thing eps too, the production value is incredibly slick so far.

@tmp3 - I havent started Swamo Thing yet but Doom Patrol is alot of fun. Alan Tudyk as Mr Nobody alone sold me. Also 100% agreed about Negative Man, same with Robot Man. For season 2 though they need to do more with Elastiwoman. I ended up enjoying her as the show went on but I wanted more development for her personally.

@tmp3 - So what you are telling me is Swamp Thing is too GOOD for the DC Universe?

@LongMayHeReign - DCTV to well reviewed shows with good production values:

Although, Doom Patrol isn't anything like the CW shows, so hopefully that gets a season 2. There's Watchmen too, but thankfully that's HBO.

@dracula - Doom Patrol I’m good on tbh, and YJ is cool but it’s not something I need so bad that I would actually subscribe to the service. I’d be happy to wait the extra day to stream in on Putlocker or wherever else I could find it

Hopefully these 10 episodes either tell a full story, or they can at least do a DC Universe movie to wrap it up

That awkward moment when the only show on your streaming service that's renewed has the man behind Batman & Robin, Transformers: The Last Knight and The Dark Tower as its showrunner.

@WakandanQueen - It's gonna be funny having Batwoman and Titans Season 2 airing at the same time as that Watchmen show from Lindelof, considering two of them are gonna be edgy, cringe-inducing shows that are a 13 year olds interpretation of "dark and gritty", while the other is from the guy who created one of the best reviewed seasons of TV in the last decade (The Leftovers).

Also, if anyone hasn't seen The Leftovers: they should see the Leftovers. Season 2/3 are on the level of Breaking Bad at its very best.

@tmp3 - The Leftovers is a masterpiece. I'll be watching Watchmen for sure. Titans and Batwoman are both a hard pass.
