SWAMP THING Ceases Production Early As Future Of DC Universe Streaming Service Seems Uncertain

Some potentially awful news for DC Universe fans here, as Swamp Thing has halted production after shooting only 10 of its scheduled 13 episodes, leaving the future of the streaming service in doubt...

It seems Warner Bros. has unexpectedly shut down production on the currently shooting Swamp Thing DC Universe series.

A report from a local news outlet where the show is filming states that cameras have stopped rolling, while also calling the future of the streaming service itself into question. “The currently in-production project is being shut down earlier than expected as its producer, Warner Bros., evaluates the future of its DC Universe streaming service, on which the series was scheduled to premiere May 31, according to several sources within the local industry.”

Apparently, cast and crew were informed that Swamp Thing would wrap production on episode 10 and then halt to allow writers and producers to rewrite an ending. The show was originally scheduled to film 13 episodes through May.

This is obviously going to upset fans, but the cast doesn't seem very happy about it either. In a since deleted Instagram post, actress Virginia Madsen wrote, "I’m beyond sad. What a terrible decision. We have been cut to the core by those who have never set foot into the Swamp."

Titans really found its feet after a rocky start and Doom Patrol has been excellent, so if DC Universe does fold it'll be a real shame. With any luck, we'll still get to see those 10 episodes of Swamp Thing at some point.

Who could have possibly imagined that a niche streaming service that rotates it's limited content wasn't a really viable revenue stream.

@Jayman627 - I'm thinking WB will just do a streaming service and include DC in there

@Jayman627 - Or even HBO. But I don't think just one singularly branded thing is gonna last.

@SecretWarrior - BOOM!! CORRECT!!! DING! DING! DING! and if people actually read the post production did not completely cease! it was momentarily halted so a new ending could be rewritten! but, yes i believe you r completely correct that WB will absorb the dc universe into their new streaming platform as a channel with an interactive element... i.e. a vrv type service.

Why the [frick] does Warner Bros. even own DC if they don't want them to create content?

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - They do want them to create content. They're just reconfiguring the show to a 10 episode format, which I think is fine. I think Doom Patrol is stretching it with 15 episodes, but the content is so [frick]ing good, I don't notice.
Titans was cut down to 11 episodes. Maybe Swamp Thing doesn't warrant 13 episodes, or maybe they're busting through their budget. Who knows?
