It's that time of year again! While the Legends of Tomorrow aren't going to be making an appearance, this year's Arrowverse crossover still promises to be epic as The Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl all get in on the action for "Elseworlds."

The event is set to introduce Gotham City and Batwoman to the Arrowverse and following last night's first instalment, we're breaking down all the biggest moments for you. If you've watched the episode, this serves as a handy recap and if now, well, at least now you know what's been happening!

This first part definitely set the stage for the next couple of nights and left us not only with some questions but also a number of pretty significant answers. There was even an Easter Egg bound to make Smallville fans happy!

So, to take a look, all you guys have to do is hit the "View List" button below.

The Monitor Meets Dr. John Deegan

The episode kicks off with The Monitor meeting with Dr. John Deegan, a psychiatrist whose strange ideas about being "super" are scoffed at by his peers. He hands him an ancient looking book of some sort which will give him the power to reshape reality and the next thing we know, Barry Allen and Oliver Queen have switched lives!

No other changes are apparent throughout this episode but if Deegan's name is familiar, it's because he's better known as Doctor Destiny in the comic books.

In those, he's a super-villain who uses his superior mind and dreaming powers, centred on an invention called the Materioptikon, to commit crimes. This version only seems vaguely connected as he's obviously using that book to change the world to the way he believes it should be.

Freaky Friday

The Flash delivered an interesting take on the "Freaky Friday" concept by leaving Barry and Oliver in their own bodies but having them switch lives (so the Flash now looks like Oliver Queen and Green Arrow looks like Barry Allen but each man still has their own memories).

They also have a pretty good grasp of each other's powers and some of the episode's best moments come when they're using them.

Amazo Rises

Forced to race into action, Oliver heads to IVO Labs to stop a break-in and as he's getting used to his new abilities, one of his blasts of lightning activates a robot we soon learn is Amazo!

Created by Professor Ivo with revolutionary Absorption Cell Technology, this android can replicate the powers of any metahuman he encounters and soon starts causing havoc in Central City.

Vibe and Killer Frost are easily bested by the android and considering the fact that he was brought to life on a TV budget, The CW did a great job (I'm sure we'll see Professor Ivo soon too).

"Somebody Save Me"

When we head to Smallville, a familiar tune plays over the image of the town that plays on screen (which was also used in the Smallville TV series and probably saved The CW some money).

While it doesn't appear as if any characters from that world will be making an appearance during this crossover, it was still great to hear the theme tune and an Easter Egg fans are bound to appreciate. The Kent Farm used in this episode is the same one we saw in Smallville back in the day too.

Earth-38

When Oliver and Barry arrive on Earth-38, Kara recognises them for who they really are (unlike everyone on Earth-1) and they're introduced to the Man of Steel and Lois Lane in short order.

It's great to see these character share the screen and in a fun throwback to the first Arrowverse crossover, Barry manages to get some payback on Oliver when he shoots him in the back with a couple of arrows. Tensions soon start rising between the two heroes until Vibe appears and tells them that they're needed back on Earth-1 to stop the rampaging Amazo.

A Super Team-Up

Arriving in Central City, Superman, Supergirl, the Flash (Oliver Queen), and Green Arrow (Barry Allen) all take on Amazo and while they're initially overpowered by the android, Barry hatches a plan and the robot is ultimately destroyed in short order.

This was an impressive action sequence and a lot of money was clearly spent on it. It's not apparent right now what role, if any, Amazo will play in this crossover (it could be he was only here to give the heroes something to fight) but seeing these characters side by side is really satisfying, especially now that Superman has joined the gang. That rumoured solo series needs to happen ASAP.

What's Happening To Barry Allen?

Something tells me that there could be an interesting twist in store for Barry and Oliver as this event continues. During the final battle with Amazo, the former Scarlet Speedster starts exhibiting some of Green Arrow's character traits, including telling Amazo that he's "failed this city."

Could it be that the
long they're swapped, the more they'll become like each other? Oliver certainly seems less brooding than normal and it could be that whatever Deegan has done to the world is starting to become permanent the longer it remains that way.

Superman Goes Home

Set photos have confirmed that Superman still has a pretty significant role to play in this crossover but by the time The Flash ends, he's returned to Earth-38 to see how Lois is getting on.

This episode definitely feels like it could have been testing the waters for a Superman TV show and with Henry Cavill seemingly walking away from the Man of Steel on the big screen, there's really nothing to stop The CW from committing to this version of the comic book character.

Regardless, it seems as if Supes will take a backseat tonight before returning in Supergirl tomorrow.

Batwoman

The episode ends with Oliver and Barry realising that The Monitor visited Deegan in Gotham City and not only do we get to see a skyscraper with "Wayne" written on the site but Batwoman is then shown watching over the iconic comic book location.

That's all we get to see of Kate Kane in this episode and even then she's only shown from a distance!

Interestingly, even Oliver seems worried about the prospect of heading to Gotham and it will clearly be in tonight's Arrow that we finally get to spend some time with Batwoman...

An Age-Old Question, Answered

I almost forgot to include this but it's definitely a moment worth highlighting. When Oliver and Barry are placed in the S.T.A.R. Labs prison/pipeline, the former complains about there not even being a toilet in the cell. For years, fans have wondered how those imprisoned there manage to use the loo and we finally get an answer when Barry reveals that it's actually hidden within the wall!

What did you guys think about "Elseworlds - Part 1" during last night's episode of The Flash? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts on that in the comments section down below.

@OptimusGrime - I agree. We need a Superman series asap. The chemistry between Clark and Lois needs a little work but I bet a few episodes in they would really start to become pitch perfect casting. It had the rough and uneasy delivery of a pilot episode, actors still working out what does and doesn't work, but I think they have something special together and visually looked great together on screen.

Hands down the weakest part of the episode was the freaky Friday stuff. That was some of the cringiest and nonsensical writing I've seen come out of the CW in a loooong time, maybe ever. Everyone behaved out of character and their decisions made absolutely no sense. Why did Oliver not immediately tell Iris he wasn't Barry? Why did he play along with it for so long until he ran to Star City? Why didn't Team Flash believe them and further more trick them into imprisonment? If Oliver and Barry are saying they swapped lives, everyone should immediately trust them and get to work, why was everyone so dismissive of it to the point of being idiotic? And the writing of how everyone behaved was just out of character, or almost exaggerated versions of themselves to such an extreame that it was actually out of character.

The first half of the episode had some decent.... passable gags that were entertaining but it was mostly frustratingly dumb, and it wasn't until we went to Smallville that the episode got awesome and was awesome until it was over.

That Amazo battle was pure awesome. I'm glad they went all in with that. As I suspected the life swapping aspect is sorta ruining my enjoyment of this crossover a bit, the Amazo fight would have been so much more epic with Amell as Green Arrow and Grant as Flash, they dont do a very good job as each others heroes and are definitely properly cast in their normal roles. I just think it was a misguided angle to have them be swapped for the entire crossover. For as epic and cool as these team ups are gonna be, it's just a little less perfect having them swapped. I dont suspect my opinion will change on that for parts 2 and 3.

A Superman not disgracing the S like Henry Cavill

@BpBestPicture - Cavill never disgraced the S. He actually showed shades of the character in MOS & when he joined the League in Justice League, he was every bit the Superman from the comic books. Blame Snyder &/or Goyer & Terrio for Superman's portrayal, not Cavill.

@TDKRnry88 - Do we blame Snyder/Goyer/Terrio for the bad acting?

I have to say: The Monitor character came across really great! The appearance and his portrayal. He's not a character that I would have thought would translate well to TV, but I really enjoyed him.
So much better than Apocalypse.

All of the rundown is accurate except the part about Vibe being with Killer Frost when Amazo escaped and copied their powers, it was actually Elongated Man who got his abilities scanned by him as Amazo used them to stretch his robot arms to knock out the guards at IVO Labs.

Would’ve been cool if Amazo used Ralph’s powers to elongate his arms to try to catch Oliver during that chase scene, but I get that maybe due to budget or even run time it couldn’t happen. It was still all awesome!
