Next week, Cicada (Chris Klein) strikes back at Team Flash and deals a pretty major blow to Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy) and to make matters worse, Nora's not even able to heal herself due to the villain's dampening abilities, which sends Barry (Grant Gustin) spiraling.

Meanwhile, Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) runs into a roadblock with her cure research when Killer Frost keeps interrupting her thought process.

"Seeing Red" - (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (TV-14, LV) (HDTV)

CICADA SEVERLY INJURES NORA - During a battle with Cicada (Chris Klein), Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy) is severely injured. Due to Cicada's dampening powers, Nora's speed healing isn't working, leaving Barry (Grant Gustin) and Iris (Candice Patton) scared for their daughter's future. Upset about his injured child, The Flash is filled with rage and confronts Cicada in a brutal battle. Meanwhile, Killer Frost (Danielle Panabaker) keeps interfering with Caitlin's work on the cure. Marcus Stokes directed the episode written by Judalina Neira & Thomas Pound (#511). Original airdate 1/22/2019.

Matching wits with The Thinker, who by season’s end had harnessed the powers of all twelve bus metas he created, stretched Team Flash to their limits, but with the help of some new allies, Barry Allen (aka The Flash) and company were able to put a stop to the Enlightenment and save Central City once again. However, with the arrival of Barry and Iris’ speedster daughter, Nora, who arrived from the future admitting to having made a “big mistake,” things are anything but status quo. Will parenthood be the challenge that finally slows The Flash down?

Damn, even the way Cicada hits Nora's back is similar to when E2 Zoom injured Barry. This guy is not taking prisoners anymore.

The aspect of having to protect other past metas (I noticed Peek-a-Boo among them) and then, apparently, accepting their offer to take him on as part of Barry's vendetta makes the ep more interesting.

Full review later.

@NinnesMBC - Would be nice to see some Rogues team up against Cicada, we cant have Captain Cold and Heatwave, but they could bring in Weather Wizard, Top, Mirror Master, and some others gang up on him.

@dracula - hopefully not Mirror Master again

@HeavyMetal4Life - Yeah I get what you mean, when it comes to the classic rogues, they got most of them right, but they got Mirror Master and Top really wrong, but it would still be great to see the classic rogues unite on screen.Maybe one day we can get Evan McCulloch, its not like the producers havent done something like that before, we had 2 black canaries, 2 Count Vertigos (Although while both were entertaining, they could have done so much more with Count Vertigo, he could have made a good big bad of Arrow, hell they wanted a villain with powers for Arrow season 4, they should have used Count Vertigo instead of Damien Darhk)

@dracula - fair enough, as long as its a different Mirror Master because we saw him, what like 2 or 3 times? And not very good.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Yeah, but to bad we cant get all the rogues together, since Captain Cold is dead and Heatwave is on Legends. Would be great to see Pied Piper and Golden Glider again, Glider could unite some of the other rogues, Piper is good now, so I guess he could help team flash

@dracula - A bit of a shame that Piper hasn't shown up again since season 2 (I think?). Golden Glider doesn't make as much sense without her gang, her brother and Rory, imo.

So... yeah not a really good episode, very mediocre. These villain of the week episodes are throwaway entries. And well, that's most of what we get anymore with this show. This episode really does nothing to move the season forward, outside of the opening and closing two scenes. After a really good 100th episode, tonight's episode was a massive step down.

THE BAD:
The opening scene with Nora and Thawne was all levels of bad. It first of all makes no sense at all. Again, not realizing that Thawne was evil? He was the arch nemesis of her father! She's been throughout the Flash museum, supposedly knows everything there, and hasn't realized Thawne was someone not to work with? More so, she specifically goes back in time as a result of her father disappearing DURING a massive fight with Thawne. So he's on death row? If that's not clear enough that his intentions probably are selfish, then I don't know what is to Nora. If you have to hide your actions from everyone, and you probably wouldn't be proud of sharing who you're talking to with, say, your father, then maybe its not a good idea. Was hoping for the writers to have handled this revelation of Nora and Thawne well, but they've so far failed.

Nora's "I don't trust criminals" is pretty ridiculous. I understand that she feels betrayed after stupidly, foolishly trusting Thawne, but come on, she fell for the biggest criminal of them all. The quick turnaround was, again, unrealistic and forced. And then we got another turnaround at the end of the episode.

- Cisco and Kaitlyn together- cringe writing
- Cecile's courtroom plot- bad and unbelievable; that level of discord and discussion in the courtroom is a bit unrealistic
- The driver of the car being able to 'sense' when Barry is running up to her is also unrealistic and makes no sense
- Killer Frost sucks
- how does Nora know Rory, outside of his name? She's never really met the guy.

THE GOOD:
Sherloque seems to be the only person doing actual detective work. Not only is he the only one to mention in the beginning of the episode that Cicada is one of the team's priorities, but he also is the only one that is trying to figure out what's figuratively behind the mask with Nora.

- Mick's book shows up
- Wayne tech mention and vehicle
- remote detonation scene
- are we getting a new set of Rogues on this show?

As the only entry in the Arrowverse this week (why, by the way?), not a good week for the CW DC shows.

Next week's episode... thank god we have our big villain back on the show. Guess that means we will deal with him again, only to probably forget about him for an episode or two. The episode itself looks okay, but seriously, they have the fcking snake-eye guy come back? He's one of the worst villains ever in this show.

@HeavyMetal4Life - Cant wait for him to return, now that he isnt on Shameless anymore, we can have him as long as they need him. If he cant be confirmed as the joker, hopefully they leave it up to interpretation.
Also cant wait for Bane, sure he doesnt have the best design, but we are getting something that was missing from the Dark Knight Rises
HeavyMetal4Life
HeavyMetal4Life - 1/15/2019, 7:49 PM
@dracula - I think everyone except for DC/WB calls him the Joker. To us, he certainly is.

I'm curious to see what they do with Bane. I'm not really judging him much based on the costume.
dracula
dracula - 1/15/2019, 7:59 PM
@HeavyMetal4Life - True, we all know he is the joker, the writers know he is the joker, but if DC isnt going to allow them to call him joker, i'd say the best way to leave Jeremiah before the show ends is the Ace Chemicals episode, have him fall into the chemicals and thats it, dont show him alive, dont have them find a body, just leave it open, then maybe mention something about the joker in the finale.

Really I have no real problem with Bane's costume, could it be better, yes, but as long as the charcter is done justice, its fine. plus not sure the Luchador mask could work in live action

@dracula - Ace Chemicals episode should be great!

Yeah the Luchador mask probably wouldn't work in live action.

I stopped watching this show about mid way through season 2. Has it been any good?

Reddit had a mixed response to this episode, some YouTube reactors however liked and I was feeling a bit down or just not myself fully (although not for personal reasons), so to my surprise the episode wasn't as bad. If I had to pick any "off-episode" so far in Season 5 it'd be the Icicle one due to it took place at the same time we were still researching and getting close to set up the profile of Cicada. By "off" it doesn't mean bad to me but something that could've been done better.

Throughout the way of the episode I realized they were already inserting the main theme of the story which is of legacy and what exactly is required to be given a 2nd chance and to whom. Thawne feeling regretful of his actions was a nice twist because instead of getting the usual evil Reverse-Flash we're now seeing a tired and worn-one version that after being defeated by the Legends and Barry in the Earth-X event he is ashamed of how selfish he used to be and how it all led him to this moment in prison where he is waiting for his death sentence.

I suspect the "time is malleable" message that Sherloque managed to unlock from the message (gotta rewatch it again with subs this time to get the term that Barry used to call it) is playing a role in how Nora is able to travel back to the future and still have this chats with him. Unless she is just going back to a small interval in time. But if it is this short amount of time then and knowing the future episodes they are going to find out about this secret relationship and future!Iris showing up I assume that they are going to see Thawne face-to-face before he is executed.

In any other episode Nora's behaviour would have been lauded, I thought she was very and strictly professional for most of it and didn't let Joss' defense corner her with the usual "the meta-tech staff can corrupt people" usage argument, but she can't just disconnect from her humanity while she's at it, if not she just goes to become into a vigilante rather than a hero. Even though there is some truth in being careful of who YOU give a second chance like when she told it to Iris because I thought back on last Season when she said the same thing to Harry about wanting to work with Marlize and how it backfired with them when they tried it with Savitar.

But Barry's words about being willing to believe that at some point down the road that Thawne could be good was the boldest part of the episode for me, didn't see it coming but, this is a Barry that did make peace with the face of Wells for what he did to him with Harry in S2 and who also cleared his murder board of his mother's murder, he is no longer shackled by all of that anger, he can't be. And by doing that he proves to be better than his enemy(ies). In that moment he showed all of the growth he's gone through the story.

I wonder if we'll really get close to seeing "Young Rogues".

Cisco saying he could finall play PS4 after removing the shards was relatable. Maybe he feels deep down defeated and thus why he is going for this much more peaceful-esque alternative instead of just being Vibe and shooting vibe blasts. He'd rather have a legacy where he protected others without harming them (a little similar to Thawne but in his case is redemption and to a degree to Joss who wanted to be anything but like her dad) that also doesn't cost him his own happiness. It was a little selfish but that is normal especially when he hasn't been a superhero lately. I'd say that Cisco and Nora in this episode behaved very human-like so it was hard to fault them. But I like the resolution for the moment with both being willing to work on the cure at Icicle's lab. (As long as he doesn't come back there)

But Cicada definitely got into his head, Killer Frost was right about that and even if he finds it I think he needs to settle the score with him. I am starting to think that he'll have a moment similar to KF in S3 when he has to choose between the cure or not.

Funny enough next week it is when Cicada will get in Barry's head when he damages Nora. I wonder how much willing Barry will dwell on if Cicada deserves or not 2nd chance, more considering the future legacy that awaits him as a serial killer.

Finally Barry reading Mick's book was hilarious.
