Season 4 of The Flash will premiere later this October and look to pick up the pieces of the season three finale. Part of season three's major story arc involved time travel, and lots of it - something that Executive Producer Todd Helbing said the writers will back off from this season.

Speaking to Den Of Geek at San Diego Comic-Con, Helbing said, “I think we’ve all had our fill of time travel for a bit. It’s confusing and hard to tell those stories. It got pretty dark last year, and that’s about as dark as we want to go with this show, so we’re going to dial it a little bit back to season 1 and have The Flash enjoy being The Flash.”

While reflecting on how dark season three was, Helbing also revealed one of his regrets. “One thing we probably would have changed would have been to reveal Savitar a little bit earlier, especially since Grant is so amazing with his evil, future version of himself. It became tricky but I’m certainly proud of what we did last season," he said.

The Flash returns to The CW on October 10, 2017.

Just no more speedsters whose identity you've got to hide until halfway through the season.

the latter half of the season was pretty solid, and i'd say i enjoyed most of it more than the second season

@mrHJK - It's so rare to find someone that doesn't so irrationally hates Season 3. I feel the same a bit, I think every Season ups the ante even if it is a little or slow. Or even differently. It isn't THAT repetitive as many criticize it.

The crescendo must be The Flash fighting The Reverse Flash across time.

Nothing about The Flash being so whiny about screwing up the timeline? That was why I stopped watching midway through.

Well if there is something we can all agree from these press stuff is that no one can ever say the showrunners of the show are afraid to come clean with the audience about what worked and what didn't as they thought it would. They aren't like others (you all know who I am talking about) that just continue doing the same thing thinking it all worked perfectly without stopping to analyze if anything could've been handled
differently.

I wonder when would it have been appropiate to make the reveal. During the usual and traditional 15th episode installment after Wally ended up taking Future Flash's place in the Speed Force prison? Or maybe they would have made Barry travel to the future earlier in Season 3? What about finding out as well of Caitlin's future alliance with their enemy? Etc.

The thing with the long and slow build up to the reveal is that once Barry places all the clues together and Future Flash comes out from the Savitar suit and explains his birth in the next minutes it all just fits in nicely like a glove made just for the Season. So in a way the drawn-out pays off at the end when Barry calls him out.

Am I the ONLY one who's curious as to when the HELL Barry is going to get a costume-ring?

@CyberA - To get a costume ring, they are going to have to come up with a less bulky costume, I think. I remember rumors about that in season two.

People complaining about time travel and too many speedsters...seriously pick up a Flash comic book every once in awhile. That's what has been the driving force of the comics for so many years.

No time travel? Whatever will they do now for episode ideas?

Time travel has literally been every episode:
Opening: Barry travels through time and creates a problem
Middle of episode: Barry whining like a bitch about the problems he created
End: Barry temporarily "fixes" the problem and promises to never time travel again

Then repeat next week

Well, they could always bring back this luscious slice of crumpet:

Actually, they could have REALLY dug into a love triangle relationship between Barry, Iris, and Patti Spivot. THAT would be watchable TV!
