THE FLASH: Nora Gets A Timeout In The New Promo For Season 5, Episode 18: "Godspeed"

The Flash left fans with quite the cliffhanger before heading into its spring hiatus as Barry (Grant Gustin) made the extremely difficult decision to lock up Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy) after learning she'd been lying to him and his team for a vast majority of this ongoing fifth season.

Now, while we don't have a synopsis for the series' return in a few weeks, the new promo does preview a few scenes as we see Nora still locked up and Barry continuing his investigation into his daughter's alliance with Eobard Thawne (Tom Cavanagh).

Plus, considering the episode is titled "Godspeed," it's probably a safe bet this is where we'll meet the latest speedster.

"Godspeed" - (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET) (Content Rating TBD) (HDTV)

TBD (#518). Original airdate 4/16/2019.

Matching wits with The Thinker, who by season’s end had harnessed the powers of all twelve bus metas he created, stretched Team Flash to their limits, but with the help of some new allies, Barry Allen (aka The Flash) and company were able to put a stop to the Enlightenment and save Central City once again. However, with the arrival of Barry and Iris’ speedster daughter, Nora, who arrived from the future admitting to having made a “big mistake,” things are anything but status quo. Will parenthood be the challenge that finally slows The Flash down?

The Flash features:
Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash
Candice Patton as Iris West-Allen
Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow/Killer Frost
Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon/Vibe
Tom Cavanagh as Dr. Harrison Wells
Jesse L. Martin as Detective Joe West
John Wesley Shipp as Henry Allen/Jay Garrick
Michelle Harrison as Nora Allen
Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally West/Kid Flash
Violett Beane as Jesse Quick
Danielle Nicolet as Cecille Horton
Hartley Sawyer as Ralph Dibny/Elongated Man
Jessica Parker Kennedy as Nora Allen/XS

Another meh/okay episode of 'Flash Mistakes 101.' Oh, where to begin, where to begin... guess we will do it chronologically, with pros and cons.

So Thawne seems pleased with the Grace Cicada showing up, changing to unhappiness when he has to turn around and address Nora. This certainly tracks with what Sherloque discovers later on, that Thawne has been using Nora to manipulate the timeline for his own gain.

CON: It was good to see Ralph back, but not his strongest performance. Also did not care for the Cisco subplot in this episode, was a bit cringey.

CON: Starchives?? Seriously? They are just going to introduce something that Team Flash has apparently been using for 5 years now, out of the blue!?! Uggh, how convenient for the plot.

CON: Uhhh, Thawne's time's sphere?? Barry destroyed that, in case the writers forgot. Seriously, this is another example of terrible writing on this show, who the hell keeps hiring these writers!?! And oh my god, how is Nora that idiotic. The scratch appearing before her eyes on the frame and she needs someone to explain to her that this and the Thawne sphere are one and the same?? Barry and Iris, your kid certainly doesn't have impeccable genetics like Oliver and Felicity's!!

PRO: Thank god for Sherloque. The only brilliant member of team Flash that, as he says, is working very hard to uncover a mystery that no one else has the ability to see. Loved him trying to put himself in Thawne's shoes to figure out what was going on, great to see him actually working through the steps to figure out who Nora is communicating with. Also really enjoyed the scene of Sherloque watching the video log of Thawne, liked how he was antsy for the good stuff to be revealed.
CON: But why was no team Flash member smart enough to detect a button on the underside of Thawne's wheelchair?? You don't need to be a brilliant detective from another Earth to figure that out...

CON: Da fukkkkk. Nora's somehow connected to Grace's mind? Once again, how convenient for the plot. And the speedster doesn't hear Grace show up!?! My god.

CON: "I can't track her exactly but I can get real close. Here's her exact location." Not the exact quote, but close enough. Lmfao, damn you Flash writers!!!

PRO: The scene of Barry running through the hospital to outrun the dagger was pretty great.

CON: "Something's wrong with my breach." Well, make another breach you fool. Don't just lie there on the ground looking like Keanu Reeve's from Bill and Ted.

PRO & CON: Chris Klein was much, much better being regular old Orlin, though he still came off at times as too try hard in terms of sounding malevolent/ominous. But probably his second best episode (the first being the Cicada origin one). With regards to Orlin's last stand: so the dialogue was great and it was a good final scene for the character, but this didn't feel earned, much less the appropriate time. We needed at least another episode to allow for more development, more of a relationship, more disagreeing between those two so that Orlin EARNED his death, so that his death had more of an impact. We spend less than an episode with older Grace and Orlin (and only a few scenes amounting to a few minutes), and that was way too short to make much of an impact, much less justify Grace making such a monumental decision to kill her uncle. Felt like after dragging the show on for so freaking long with Klein's Cicada, the writers/showrunners were eager as hell to kill him off. Honestly, it was a real shame, they certainly robbed themselves of a good redemption arc.

PRO: I thought Sarah Carter did a good job portraying an all out evil, murderous Cicada, and she handled the physicality of the role well too. Certainly looking forward to more of her.

PRO: YES!!! Goddammit YES Barry, YES!!! Standing ovation for sticking it to Nora and locking her up. 100 freaking percent justified. The look on Barry's face when it was revealed Nora had been working with Thawne, that was very well done, Gustin did a great job showing the pain and emotion of Barry learning his daughter had been lying to him all season. One of the best moments of the episode.

CON: So everyone has figured out that Grace is the evil, murderous Cicada who is far worse than Orlin. Then why the hell don't you go give her the metahuman cure??? You know it works, you know it would save lives, you know it would get rid of older Cicada and you know that Eddie did something very similar to this. Why is no one running over to the hospital to administer the cure and put an end to the danger??? For once, team Flash actually has in their hands the ability to stop a villain. Use it for Christ's sake.

This episode earns 7 Kingpin table flipping gifs and 5 Patrick Bateman nodding gifs.

THE FLASH: Nora Gets A Timeout

Yeah that seems like a pretty accurate title for next week's episode, and that says a lot about the season/character.

Anyways, looking at next week's promo, I'm glad that Barry is not easily forgiving Nora. Hope there are real consequences to the lies and betrayal.

@JustAChillDude - I wonder how much of their philosophy is really sinking into the corporate culture at Marvel. It's awesome they're giving so much thought to the marketing and to the audience experience, but then when they (inevitably, sigh) leave the reins to someone else, will it be back to normal?

Maybe they have more cache because it's their fourth time at bat, or maybe they can sell Feige/the Disney Don Drapers. But it's clear when Waititi does a movie for them, Taika's nowhere to be felt in the actual marketing.
