Louis Leterrier Confirms Y: The Last Man!

After rumors a few months back that The Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier was in negotiations to direct Y: The Last Man, Now the director confirms interest in the project... as a TV show?

MTV caught up Leterrier and decided to ask whether he truly did have involvement in the adaption of Y: The Last Man as was rumored a few months back on website latinoreview. Leterrier had this to say about the last man:

"I'm surprised that it hasn't gotten made yet," Leterrier told MTV News. "The first time I read it, I was in France and doing my little movies, and I didn't think I would ever have access to these kinds of movies. Midway through 'Clash of the Titans,' I was like, 'What's going on with 'Y The Last Man'?' I called one of the producers and asked what was going on, and he said it was available. I said, 'Let's go!'"

"It's kind of stuck somewhere now," said the filmmaker. "I still want to do it. I'm passionate about it. But it's stuck. People don't know what to do with it. I'd love to do it, but I need people to finance it, and the people financing it don't know if it's a TV show a movie, or what it should be."

"It could play as a movie, but it would be very interesting as a TV show," he said. "[It wouldn't work as] one large film, no. I'd love to do it as a TV show or a three-part series."

"I like the idea of a TV show," he continued. "You take time to get to know your characters. You can introduce a lot of characters. You don't need your three-action set pieces that you usually need for movies. Frankly, with HBO and Showtime and cable shows, the DVD box sets and all, you can have a product that doesn't make you feel like as soon as it's projected, it's thrown away. It's really a piece of art."

It makes more sense as a tv series.

Makes waaaay more sense as an ongoing series. HBO or AMC, 12 episodes in a season, following the comics. Condensing this material does not do it justice for all the same reasons that 'The Walking Dead' works so well as a series. Imagine that as a movie? Or 'True Blood' just as a movie? They just work so much better as ongoing series, IMO.

Y The last man was made for TV. It will be ruined in film with everything cut out. Hopefully Walking Dead will open a flood gates of TV Comic Book Adaptations, hopefully one day We'll see a Chew TV show.

I'd rather see a series of films. Didn't somebody cool write a treatment for a trilogy once? It might have been Brian. K .Vaughn, himself.

Hello CBM readers,

I'm just about finished with my low budget adaptation of "Y The Last Man." The finished film is about 30 minutes long and will be available online for free by the end of the year.

Here's a teaser trailer from early this year: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fa0tXYumWEU

This was one of the comics that got me back into reading comics. I hope this movie is as good as the books. I would have rather seen it as a TV show, but I think the movie can be done well too.

I've been saying that since I finished Y: The Last Man. It should be a show not a film.

Man I fkn hate LL. This guy needs to go away.

AMC is cool kickin ass with Walking Dead, I would agree that this would serve best as a series, pay cable would be nice. Maybe showtime since HBO is pretty stacked with shows in production right now.

AMC can get the job done too, but that's becoming something that goes without saying.

Such an awesome series, hope it gets a TV Greenlight. I think that's the only way it could be done proper justice. Squeezing the series into 3 movies it would lose too much important content.
