PREACHER Producers Evan Goldberg And James Weaver Say Y: THE LAST MAN Was 2nd Choice

Y: The Last Man tv show

If you haven't heard,  Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg And James Weaver are working on a live-action adaptation of Steve Dillon and Garth Eniss' Preacher for AMC.  However, had that deal fell through, they would've turned their attention to makng a live-action tv series from Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra's Y: The Last Man.   While speaking to Collider, Goldberg stated, "Y: The Last Man as a feature is ludicrous.  It’s perfectly made to be a TV show."  However, Weaver adds that the script for the "Y" movie was pretty good, "I want to say…I read a lot of scripts, so I’m going to give a little bit of a caveat, but I feel like I read Y, and it’s a very good feature script.” Goldberg goes on to say that had their Preacher television series not been given the green light, attention would have turned to trying to adapt Y: The Last Man or television. "Y: The Last Man would be such a good show. And I loved it! I just didn’t like the last two pages. They were weird."

Breaking Bad's Sam Catlin is also serving as a showrunner.

I'd take Preacher over Y: The Last Man only because I've never read any of it except a couple of panels, though like SuperCat would so watch it on TV!

Maybe its time to buy a trade :p

I'd watch Y: The Last Man if it where ever to be put on film or as a tv show. I'll still give Preacher a watch though.

Y: The Last Man could be an incredible Netflix/HBO series. I like it more than preacher.

Dan Trachtenberg is doing the movie, best of both worlds.

@whyso 1984

haha I love comedies, but this is the end was not funny. it was a movie made for pretentious people who think they know the actors on a personal level and to make them seem cool.
I loved the idea of the apocalypse setting, but world's end was way better and even that still wasn't very good.

anyways, Y would be cool. I don't know anything about preacher but I'll give it a shot. when the hell is HBO gonna get on the comic-book-bandwagon??

I enjoyed This Is The End a lot, but I can understand how its sense of humour isn't for everyone

What's the problem with the last pages of Y? Seriously? "They were weird" is about the most empty criticism you can give of anything.

-Spoiler I guess, but not really since its an epilogue-

Yorrick, and escape artist, escapes and the last panel is his straight jacket, reminiscent of a bird, in the shape of a Y, only the FRIGGING TITLE OF THE SERIES.

I wonder what the hell that could mean...

"I didn't like it, and will offer no other analysis" is more accurate.

Let them ruin Preacher all they want, it's terrible.

@Dumbguyman This Is The End is kind of supposed to be stupid, so what are you getting at?

@lapress
his point is that some movies are stupid-funny, but this is the end is just stupid-stupid. he's also making the connection that a seth rogen post-apocalypse production has been done once, and it sucked, so avoid trying it again.

Y: The Last Man would be a terrible movie. It'd have to be a HBO series. But anyways, I freaking love that comic.

I am wondering how the Preacher on tv will end up being. Seth has said that pretty much the show will be completely different from the comic. But the Walking Dead is too and I like that show. So hopefully it will be good.

As for Y: The Last Man I am surprised that it isn't a show on HBO. It would be perfect for that channel. The same for Sandman & Fables.

What happened to Dan Trachtenberg directing the movie? Did that fall through?

He's right. While Y could make a decent film, a television series would be much better, and offer more of a chance to develop the characters and world more. Plus there's just something wrong with you if the idea of a television show about the last man on Earth and his capuchin crap-flinging monkey sidekick doesn't seem awesome.

I've read a bit if Y - quite a page turner. I missed a Preacher along the way somehow, might be time to go back and catch up...
Very interested in seeing what these guys come out with.
