GAME OF THRONES Brings In X-FILES & LOST Directors For Season 6

HBO's Game Of Thrones has employed a number of very talented directors over the course of its five year run, and the producers look like they're in no mood to stop that trend at any point in the near future. Hit the jump to see who they've brought on (or back) for Season 6!

Game Of Thrones recently wrapped up it's fifth season, and is now preparing to enter production for Season 6 having pretty much caught up with the events in George R.R. Martin's novels. EW have revealed the five names set to helm two episodes each on the popular HBO show next year. While there's no mention of old favorites like David Nutter, Michelle MacLaren and Alan Taylor, the list does still include three Thrones veterans - along with two new faces:

Jeremy Podeswa (Episodes 1 & 2): Previous work includes HBO's Boardwalk Empire and Showtime's The Tudors. He worked on Season 5, helming the controversial "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken" along with the far better received "Kill The Boy".

Daniel Sackheim (Episodes 3 & 4): The first of two newcomers, Sackheim is a veteran in the world of television, having directed episodes on The X-Files, Lie To Me, House and the crticially-acclaimed The Americans. He also won an Emmy for his direction of NYPD Blue in 1994.

Jack Bender (Episodes 5 & 6): Easily the most interesting new face, Bender played an integral part in ABC's cult sci-fi TV show Lost. He earned an Emmy nomination for his direction of the show's widely debated finale ("The End") back in 2010. He has since worked on the likes of CBS' Under The Dome and TNT's The Last Ship.

Mark Mylod (Episodes 7 & 8): Anothe returning face from Season 5, Mylod directed the third and fourth episodes of the show this year ("High Sparrow" and "Sons Of The Harpy") - both of which were fairly well received by critics. Interestingly, he also directed the Sacha Baron Cohen comedy, Ali G Indahouse. Make of that what you will.

Miguel Sapochnik (Episodes 9 &10): Likely the name that will generate the most excitement from Game Of Thrones fans, Sapochnik was responsible for the truly phenomenal "Hardhome" this year. Given his experience handling such a stunning battle sequence, could we expect to see another similarly epic episode from the director next year?

What do you think about the new line-up? Are you happy to see Lost-veteran Jack Bender involved? And what do you think Sapochnik has up his sleeve for us this time? As always, be sure to leave your thoughts and theories in the comments below!

Jack Bender directed a lot the best LOST episodes. Granted he also directed the most episodes.

@ImKennyPowers - That's my favorite Lost episode of all time. Season 3 might be my favorite season too.

@Minty - "That's my favorite Lost episode of all time. Season 3 might be my favorite season too."

Same on both counts.

And the damned writers strike didn't do season four any favors picking up after that awesome cliffhanger/twist. However, season four was still better than season six, it might be better than season five. It's been a while since I last watched LOST. Season six and the finale were so disappointing/frustrating it took me a few years before I wanted to rewatch it. The whole alternate timeline just didn't do it for me. I'd have rather they not "flash anywhere" with the main characters and focused primarily on answering questions and tying up loose ends. Sure the Jacob/MiB and Richard flashbacks were fine, but other than them, I could've done without the timeline that didn't exist and was ultimately irrelevant. I get it was to convey the idea they were all drawn to one another and were destined to cross paths, but for the final season it felt too forced. Like they wanted one final "flash somewhere" and the alternate timeline was the "best" idea they came up with and just ran with it.

Anyway, years later I'm still passionate and venting about LOST. hahaha.

The best XFiles director was James Wong, get him to do a Game of Thrones episode!

LOST Season 3 finale may be one of the best tv episodes of all time. Also, The Constant is up there, and Jack Bender directed both!

Those 2, Hardhome, and Watchers on the Wall are my top 4 favorite episodes of TV ever.

Extremely happy to see that Miguel Sapochnik is directing the penultimate & final episode in the series, as Hardhome was an incredible achievement on his behalf, but on the other hand, I'm disappointed to see that the director of the third & fourth episodes of the fifth series is directing the seventh & eighth episode, because, out of every director that worked on season 5, in my opinion, he was definitely the worst. For instance, I found the final fight between Ser Barristan & The Sons Of The Harpy to be the worst directed mess I've seen in the show since I can remember; the choreography itself was poor -- as were the performances -- but the directing made it even worse. In all honesty, he was the one director that I certainly didn't want to return. Someone like Alex Graves, Michelle MacLaren, David Nutter, Michael Slovis or Niel Marshall would've been a much better choice, though I was personally hoping Alan Taylor would return soon instead. At least the others are very promising choices.
