GAME OF THRONES Season 6 Premiere Date Announced

HBO has revealed the premiere date for season 6 of the critically acclaimed high-fantasy drama, so Game of Thrones fans won't have to wait too much longer to confirm the final fate of the Night's Watch Lord Commander Jon Snow (Kit Harrington).

HBO will air new episodes of Game of Thrones on April 24th.  It's a bit later in the month than the show traditionally appears. Makes you wonder if HBO was trying to buy some time for George R.R. Martin to put out the next novel in the Song of Ice and Fire series, but Martin has already confirmed that the show will pass the books this season.

Absent from last season, Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) returns with new abilities thanks to his training with The Three-Eyed Crow (Max von Sydow).  Will he be the key to saving the Seven Kingdom as Winter appears to have finally arrived?

Summers span decades. Winters can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne continues.
It stretches from the south, where heat breeds plots, lusts and intrigues, to the vast and savage eastern lands, where a young queen raises an army. All the while, in the frozen north, an 800-foot wall of ice precariously protects the war-ravaged kingdom from the dark forces that lie beyond. Kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars, lords and honest men...all play the 'Game of Thrones.'
An original series based on George R.R. Martin's best-selling 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series.

It's gonna be great! Gonna be awesome to see the backstory of R+L=J, Jon's return, and(possibly) Lady Stoneheart. Looking forward to it.

Also, just an FYI @MarkJulian, they didn't release it this late for GRRM to finish Winds of Winter, they did it because Vinyl and other shows were filling up the slot of GoT's Sunday night slot. It was speculated back in October by Entertainment Weekly:

May. Civil War/X-Men

It's going to be a great five months, and I'm probably missing a bunch of stuff.

Still can't believe they butchered Stannis' character so much. I know D&D don't like him, but c'mon!

Now this is airing later than usual. I already have to wait a year now thy want to add a couple of weeks to it, for a lazy writer who wont finish his own book on his own schedule?

False!

It has to do with HBO not having room in their schedule for GoT, Veep, Silicon Valley & Girls until then.

Hell, they've been filming this season, if they haven't already wrapped filming, without the books. Point being, the books & this season's later release date are entirely unrelated.

Martin better get off of his large, square ass and get to writing!!!! He needs to quit visiting Hobbit sets, conventions and the like, and GET. TO. [frick]ING. WORK!!!! I know that the show has departed greatly from the books but, if he pulls a Robert Jordan, I'm going to become unpleasant.

@BatmanHeisenberg have they ever gave information of Lady Stoneheart possibly coming into the story? That would be awesome if so.

Not really. Not much evidence, but I think it's possible. Either way, we KNOW Jon Snow is coming back, so that's fun!

Absolutely. Everything about Season 6 is exciting. I'm excited to see Dany again and Tyrion as a leader. Seeing both Arya and Bran training is pretty awesome.

I hope Jon rips Theon's head from his [frick]ing body.

I miss Joffery whenever I see Theon. Like, I love this season, but Theon makes me so eerie inside. I'd love to murder him sometimes lol.
