Game of Thrones Stars to take Lead Spotlight in Fantasy and Gaming Convention in Belfast

You want a good weekend - What about a night on the piss in Belfast followed by meeting the stars of Game of Thrones, a variety of comicbook artists and SF writers and rounding it off with a trip around the Game of Thrones sets. I'm packing a picnic and it contains egg and onion sandwiches - You have been warned!

Batman & Robin, Electra Woman & Dyna Girl, Belfast & Science Fiction. Not normally a combination that comes to mind but ever since peace has broken out Northern Ireland has seen an explosion in all forms of SF media.

This new wave has been bubbling under the radar for a few years but since the release of City of Ember (No - I didn't like it either!) the movie industry here has started to grow and really make it's mark. Last year Game of Thrones was filmed relatively quickly using local craftsmen, artists, crew, extras and without any hassle from the general populace. Stunning countryside and rustic castles that everyone here took for granted have now been seen by the world and the world is taking notice.

On September the 24th memebers of the cast and crew of Game of Thrones will meet for the Titancon at the Europa Hotel in Belfast. Ironically its the most bombed hotel in Europe and I have no doubt it will be an explosive day for all the right reasons.

Joining them will be SF writer Ian McDonald River of Gods (2004) and Brasyl (2007) Ian won the 2007 Hugo Award for Best Novelette for The Djinn's Wife (2006).

Personally the highlight for me will be Comic Book Legend Will Simpson whose work on Judge Dredd & Rogue Trooper was among the first to really show gritty realism of these tough characters . He also designed the armour and storyboards for the Game Of Thrones.

See you there!
