George R.R. Martin's GAME OF THRONES Movie In The Works?

Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin discusses his involvement with a planned movie for the hit HBO fantasy drama and what the movie will include that was omitted from the cable show. Will Martin be involved in the film, or is his plate full with books and other projects?

Speaking to  with Daily Star (via Pajiba), Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin (GRRM) stated that there's a movie in the works but he will not be inovlved with it.  Said Martin, "There will be a movie but I will not be involved. I have too much to do. That is something HBO and DB and David are dealing with. I have two more books to finish and I still have so much to do."

What's even more interesting is that Martin stated that the movie will feature extensive flashblacks and focus on parts of the book that the show omitted. In theory, this opens the door for the return of  fan-favorite characters that have been killed off.  "They are looking at dipping back in time during certain periods of the series, which could be examined as a one off plot. That means that some of the big characters who fans have seen die on screen could be resurrected."

GRRM has taken to his official blog to refute this news but it's interesting that he says that a movie is not in the works as opposed to saying that he never made the above statements.  Perhaps the folks at HBO, made a phone call to GRRM to voice their displeasure over the leak?

I knew there was a reason they never showed that flashback they filmed with the Mad King killing off Ned's father and brother.

I always thought that to buy Martin a year's time to write the last book they could have done a season called "Robert's Rebellion" and just do a year on that. Then come back for the final season. But since they're flashing back to the Tower of Joy this year it wouldn't be worth it.
Don't know what story they would do a movie on.

I always thought the movie would deal with the second half of the 7th book. That way they could do book 6 and half of 7 in seasons 6 and 7 then the movie could cover the climax. That would give Martin 3-4 more years to finish the novel before the film would come out.

Far too much content for a mere film mark my words that will be the next ASoIAF show

Would anyone else like to see Dunk and Egg bought to the screen in some way or another?

Do you think they'll make him as atrocious looking as he is in the book for the film?

I would love it if they set a film or show in old valyria during its golden age before the doom wiped it out.

I like the tv series. Just make them longer. 10 episodes is too short. 15-20 episodes would be better.

Yes they have far too much content and it really showed in the latest season especially when they rushed Stannis and his army's long brutual march

One of the best shows on TV. Lots of slow burn, but it always pays off incredibly.

Probably my favorite show of all time...really, though you gotta stick with it for the payoffs! The first season can get confusing with all of the characters/houses, etc., but you'll pick up on it quickly...can't recommend the show enough (especially when you realize, it's a damn tv show and not a movie you're watching each week!)

Best idea. It should be a trilogy. The Valyrians, Aegon's Conquest, and Roberts Rebellion. That would give us a deep history on Westeros.
