You’re saying you can’t enjoy this series because you didn’t like the movie version from 2009?

They’re not tied together...this doesn’t even seem to be a direct adaptation.

@regularmovieguy - Nah I'm just saying I'd rather HBO have adapted the original material to begin with, rather than have the Snyder movie and then also this new series based on new material.

@FleischerSupes - I get what you are saying, and kind of agree, but while Watchmen was fine, I have an issue deification of folks like Alan Moore and to an extent Frank Miller and their work in comics, and I know I will get a lot of crap for this, but please bear with me...

There are a lot of people who look at stories/books like Watchmen and The Killing Joke and The Dark Knight Returns and put them on a pedestal that is so unbelievably high, and I don’t think it is 100% justified. I enjoy reading comics, and while there are some really cool comic book stories, many are just great comic book stories that feel very much like many other comic books.

Moore and Miller and a few others were some of the first to really imagine some amazing tales that happened to be about comic book characters and really took some chances that most comic book stories did not.

I guess I am saying that a LOT of comic book stories are and have been limited to a certain, say, color palette, and these guys broke the mold at time when many were very similar. And they deserve a ton of credit. But there are others who came later and have written some AMAZING tales that don’t get the same drooling over because there have now been many more writers who realized that the medium doesn’t just have to be solely about heroes thwarting villains. There can be depth and complexities and subtleties.

I would say that to me, some of Neil Gaiman’s writing on Sandman is better than Alan Moore’s 2 comic bibles, and yet it doesn’t seem to evoke the same type of fanaticism.

And that is fine. It was just something I was thinking about.

@FleischerSupes - I definitely agree about being too faithful but not capturing the spirit. But I wonder if that could ever happen in a movie that would appeal to the GA and be a watchable length.

Like many cb stories worth puttng on screen, I feel an HBO type format would work best.
