Whether the show would be about the prequel comics, the main comics, or something entirely new, fans are excited about the idea of the show. It was first reported by Collider that a show was in talks, now HBO representives have given a statement to Variety saying “Preliminary discussions regarding ‘Watchmen’ have occurred but we have no additional information and no deals are in place." This is cool news. I just hope this leads to more comic books being turned into HBO shows. Fables, 100 Bullets, Sandman & The Caped Crusader would be perfect for that channel. Sadly I doubt Batman would be on both the big screen and small one, but one can hope. The way to make them different have the one on the big screen coexist with the rest of the DCU characters and the one on HBO just takes place in its own universe. You could still have references to other people like Lex Luthor, but you never see them.

What @staypuffed said @NateBest

:)

If I was an editor, just saying, would I be involved in fights against other new sites if ComicBookMovie and another site were at odds?

I could be the Brick to our KVWN team.

@0megaDaGr0dd - "The movie is pretty much perfect so I'm not sure what would be the point of rehashing similar material with a lower bugdet and a likely less visually talented director"

HBO spends approx. $6M per episode on Game of Thrones, will it's not the $160M budget the film had, that's still a lot to work with and it's approx. double the per episode budget for almost all network/cable series.

And as for director, I'd suggested Cary Fukunaga to direct the entire series or at least, he directs the entire first season of the Watchmen series. I think he's gotta be the "leader in the clubhouse" to direct, his style seems like a great fit for Watchmen.
And I'd love to see a tracking shot on Watchmen as intensely captivating as the one he did on True Detective.

HBO, Zack Snyder and Watchmen? Never have I seen such a beautiful trio of words together!

I'm trying to suppress that voice in my mind that says: "Anything Watchmen related that doesn't come from Moore and Gibbons is heresy." I'm sure there are ways to explore these characters that goes beyond, or even contradicts, their comic. I even generally like the decision to make Manhattan Veidt's extraterrestrial threat, since it streamlined an otherwise much more complicated plot.

But still, that voice exists.

Hopefully this has that famous Snyder feel and style.

Honestly, I'd like to see them do a series about the characters that Watchmen were inspired by (with a few switches). The Question, Blue Beetle, Captain Atom, for sure, and maybe Max Lord in place of Veidt. Basically take the C and D list DC characters that have no chance of getting into the movies, and doing a relatively dark take on them, without leaning of Moore's story (which we've all seen at this point).

Elongated Man and Sue Dibney would be a good fit, as well.

@dethpillow

Absolutely. I've long believed that it's often the second or third generation of creators that really find the best voice for a character. Lee was great for Spider-Man, but X-Men didn't really become the X-Men until Claremont got ahold of them.

I think part of the reason why Watchmen is special is that A) It's Alan Moore, and his dismissal of any adaptations is sort of infectious, and B) The characters of the Watchmen are basically inseparable from the story of the Watchmen. They feed into each other and serve each other so well that stuff like "Rorchach and Nite-Owl's early days" are sort of already spelled out in the few times they are referenced.

I mean, is there really anything to be gained from seeing Adrian Veidt's origin? Either the writers lard it down with foreshadowing of his eventual sinister turn, or they play him as a straight idealist and the reader is just forced to watch a man who doesn't know what he will eventually become.

Prequels. I've really come to hate prequels.

I love this jockeying of position between DC and Marvel. HBO's answer to Netflix/Marvel partnership lies with DC. A limited Watchmen series would be great to see on HBO.
