Reports Say Watchmen Settlement is Near

Reports Say Watchmen Settlement is Near

Over the weekend, Fox and WB solved most of their differences. Apparently WB will now focus on sueing Gordon.

Apparently the reason for the TV spots being aired is that the settlement between Fox and WB is almost done, same reason Fox's Tom Rothman and WB´s Alan Horn were seen smiling at each other and back patting on the Golden Globes.

Court documents show that WB is pursuing Gordon for all damages WB might suffer from Fox's claims. Guess Gordon will be the only one to lose out of this mess.

Also if you want to follow this case, there's a lot of info at Filmesq

I hope this is true. As much as I hate Fox I would love them if they worked things out between them and WB.

Thank god we don't have to hear about this movie being not released on time anymore, that just got repetitive. I can't wait for this movie, and now i don't have to worry about Boycotting Wolverine.

It does make sense if he's the one that needs to make sure all the legal stuff is well.....LEGAL.

Once again it's not FOX'S fault.

It's not Fox's fault? Then why wait till the last minute to pursue this 'legal battle'? They had several years to bring up their claim and chose to remain mute. I think if they were completely in the right they would have done this a long time ago. They hit the jackpot with the judge that had their case and from what's been said most other judges would have thrown the case out from the get go.

In the end it's all about the greedy bastards getting a payday!

That's absolutely right, FOX decided to throw up this lawsuit now when they knew they could hurt WB as much as they could, to extort a gratuitous settlement, they were aware of this production for a long time, but wanted to let the work be done before robbing the crafters. If you want to sue someone to stop infringing on some copyright you have you should do it as early as youre aware of them doing it, doing otherwise shows willful opportunism and should be penalized by the legal system as an attempt to game the courts into participating in a daylight robbery.

Even if FOX were in the right which they aren't, they should stipulate that they will not stop the popular release so WB can go full ahead with their advertising, and agree to keep settlements of damages empty of any cease an desist appeals to the court.

Am I the only one who caught that whole 'DC might loose Superman' thing? Next to 'Bats', the Big Blue Schoolboy is DC's biggest 'bread-and-butter' character! I imagine the boys at DC are probably sh!tting big blue kryptonite bricks over this one!! I say, "Good for the Siegels!" Maybe now we'll be able to get a decent Superman movie once he's wrestled away from grubby corporate hands!!!

Oh, and it's about F@CKING time some progess was made on 'The Watchmen' suit!

DC won't loose Sups but the Siegels could get claims to monies earned since 1999. Big Money. They will then renegotiate the contract then.

If they had to split profits to any meaningful fraction this could hardly be good for WB, additional interest can't make up for at best 25% more profit and that's stretching alot, more likely 5% more or even less profit since theyre losing the confidence to be able to pour the full ad moneys into promotion, reducing the buzz and all that jazz.

Well the LA Times say that:

"Among the possible settlement terms under discussion is a deal in which Fox could end up with as much as 8.5% of "Watchmen's" gross receipts"

If it flops and just covers the costs... it would mean they get just over 11 million dollars , for doing nothing. Hey, I could really use a deal like that, 11 million just for sueing is really nice, not only that but no money will come out of WB, since all of it will come out of Gordon's pocket or his insurance company.

Although what I think this means is that Gordon's profit will just go to Fox. That would explain why they are playing so nice.

Here's the LA Times article LA Times

and a THR article too regarding a letter Gordon's legal team wrote to the judge The Hollywood Reporter
