Silk Spectre II's new costume.

Silk Spectre II's new costume.

I was wondering why the costume designers of the new Watchmen movie has decided to change Silk Spectre's costume from the original comic costume. Is it because the new costume is more sexy?

Could the reason be Sex? Why did the costume designers change Silk Spectre II's costume?

In the comic book she has her mother's old costume, right? So why did they keep everyone else's costumes in the movie the same but changed Silk Spectre II's? I thought the producers were trying to keep it as close to the comic book as possible. I mean maybe they were trying to sex her up but I thought the comic book costume was better. Maybe they thought the costume in the book was out dated. Then why did they keep The Original Silk Spectre's costume the same?

I think this is a major flaw in the movie, what are your thoughts?

Hers isn't THAT much different. I think Ozymandias' costume is the most changed out of all of them for the movie (which I don't think is a TERRIBLE thing). And in the comic it's not her mother's old costume, it's just the same general color scheme. Silk Spectre I and II are different costumes, just like how Nite Owl I and II are different.

Nite Owl's costume has changed too. Also Ozymandias is a s**tload more different in the movie. It's not really a bad thing and I'm not complaining about Silk Spectre's costume and I don't know any man who would. Sorry just how I feel...the guy's perspective.

ya I guess. I understand to sex it up for movies. I never really thought about Ozymandias' costume, ya it is very different. I guess that I was just looking at Silk more because I am a big fan and I am also a girl.

its all about T and A in hollywood unfortunately
however she is supposed to look sexy and have draw every eye in the room
what better way than to show a little skin
and costume changes dont worry me too much as long as the basic look and feel remain true, which it does for me in this case
not everything looks as good in real life as it does on paper, actually most things dont

Honestly, costume changes aren't that bad. There isn't a comic movie out there that hasn't adapted the costumes from the comics to fit the movie. This is not that bad. As a matter of fact, I basically expect that to be the first thing they change in the medium transfer, not that I don't like the costumes they wear in the comics, but because some things honestly just don't look as good in Live Action as they do illustrated. Now it is pretty obvious why the Minute Men all have the same costumes with little or no changes. They wanted to preserve that nostalgic feeling of the bygone era they represent, while our Watchmen are more modern, and it makes sense to make them look that way.

Things like this don't bother me in comic movie adaptations, its when they betray an integral part of the story, or portray a beloved character in a way that makes them unfamiliar. Point is, this is small potatoes here with the costume likeness. It's the screw-ups that we don't even know are there until we go to see the actually movie that you should all worry about.

The real problem I have with the costume changes in the Watchmen movie is the inconsistency. Nite Owl's and Veidt's have been changed to latex armorlike costumes, the Comedian's and Rorscharch's are practically unchanged and Silk Spectre's has been changed to make her sexier. If the idea behind changing Veidt's and Nite Owl's is to make them look more modern and to have better protection, why would Laurie wear something that is practically painted on and would offer her no protection whatsoever, is it money? I'm sure her mom would have invested in a better costume. I mean, they should have changed them all in the same direction (maybe except for Rorscharch's since he has no money).

To be honest, I think this costume covers the Silk Spectre II up more than the comic book version. Sure the style has been updated, but I really think that the costume designer wouldn't have the actress running around in a see-through silk blouse with nought but a pair of granny panties and two conveniently placed straps across the actress' chest.

in the movie, she is covered up way more than in the comic. plus, she has that armored corset she wears, probly bulltproof, who knows! nite owl hav changed more than the others! adrian may not have his gold bodysuit, but the belt and armored cape are pretty close. with all the texture andd detail in nite owls suit, i think he's changes the most. i mean the friggen thing is bronze!!!!!!!
