WATCHMEN: HBO Programming Chief Says The Pilot Episode Has A "Phenomenal" Script

We haven't seen anything official from Watchmen quite yet but HBO programming chief Casey Bloys has nothing but good things to say about what he's seen from the pilot thus far. Hit the jump for details...

As you'll no doubt be well aware, HBO is developing a Watchmen TV series which looks set to serve as a sequel of sorts to Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' beloved graphic novel. Unless the cable network is hiding something from us, it doesn't appear as if the show will feature any original characters and will instead be set in an entirely different state, revealing how the rest of America dealt with the fallout.

During a recent interview at the Television Critics Association press tour, HBO programming chief Casey Bloys shared his thoughts on how the pilot is coming together and while he hasn't seen it yet, he definitely sounds confident in Damon Lindelof's ability to deliver a strong series for the cable network.

"I have very, very high hopes," he explained. "They did a great job. Damon [Lindeolf] wrote a phenomenal script, and Nikki Kassell did an amazing job shooting the show. I think we see it in a few weeks. So, we’ll see." He also noted that no decision will be made about HBO picking up the series until network execs get to watch it, so there's nothing to say we'll ever actually get to see the show.

Are you excited to see Watchmen? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts on that below.

This is unrelated but Omg why hasn't anyone covered this?

The original Teen Titans is getting a season six as confined by the post credits of Teen Titans Go to the Movies.

I just wish it was a faithful adaptation of the comics with the characters from the comics.

Zack Snyder's Watchmen is an under-rate classic and probably his best work. Hope this show is good....although I'm not crazy about Damon "ruin the Alien prequel franchise" Lindelof !!

@emeraldtaurus - See I think Snyder's Watchmen is over-rated. I would say the only Snyder movie that was good was 300.

Never saw Dawn of the Dead?

@regularmovieguy - I have and forgot that one. That was good. I tink the the reason that was a good one was the script and that was done by George Romero and James Gunn. I know Snyder had a hand in 300 but that one just used the graphic novel as the script so it was hard to scre it up.

Will we ever get a truly faithful Watchmen I wonder

@BlackBeltJones - say what you want about snyders film but his directors cut is one of the most faithful adaptations ever

@rebellion - i quite like it but he turns the characters into action heroes and they were never that.

@BlackBeltJones - But they were a pastiche of superheroes, which were the dominant genre of comics at the time (and still are).

In the movies, superheroes are also action heroes, so it makes perfect sense for them to be presented to us in such a fashion. There were even a few slight homages to previous superhero movies, throughout.

"...doesn't feature any of the original characters"
"..set in an entirely different state"
WTF????
So is this Watchmen...Or NOT??
Or is this Lindeolf effin around with the property ?
I always get skittish when someone has "a better idea" (yeah, RIGHT) then the original writer of the material.

He probably doesn't know anything about Watchmen. And he's the programming chief of HBO. This isn't biased at all.

@SmokingMan

HBO has some of the best quality content on TV. It could be a piece of shit but they’ve earned the benefit of the doubt imo.

@regularmovieguy - No doubt. They've turned out great stuff in the past 20 or so years. I just don't see it here. I'll give it a shot though.

Still not sure why they chose this - but it's HBO. So I'll check it out.

Slightly OT, anyone read the latest Doomsday Clock?

It's actually pretty good. Judging it as a single issue comic it was really brilliant. Judging it as a part 6 of a 12 part sequel to Watchmen? smh. Nope.

There's even censorship. They can't allow the F word or nudity in a Watchmen sequel?! There's plenty of OTT violence in there, but they still shade the offending areas of Marionette and Mime's naked bodies and have The Comedian say "Fuh… Kkkk".

Worth checking out though I highly recommend it.

Speculative potential spoiler-not-spoiler alert:
I think Marionette and Mime are the parents of one of the Jokers.
