The Watchmen movie may get a helping hand from Hellboy’s strong, $23.5 million premiere box office draw.

Producer Lloyd Levin, who will also produce the Watchmen, told the Chicago Sun-Times: "We're going to do The Watchmen. It's about a group of superheroes who reunite to figure out who is trying to kill them off."

For the uninitiated: "It's different characters, but it's really a unique story because it deals with the spiritual aspect of being a superhero," he says.

Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ Watchmen maxi-series in 1985 broke open the conventional comic book superhero genre by giving its main characters believable, sometimes fatal, flaws.
