WATCHMEN Season 2 Could Happen With Regina King And Without Damon Lindelof On Two Conditions

Regina King, the star of HBO's surprisingly well-received Watchmen television sequel, has revealed what it would take for her to return for a second season, and it's not Damon Lindelof's participation.

Damon Lindelof, the showrunner and mastermind behind HBO's well-received Watchmen sequel, surprised even the most skeptical of critics with a spectacular take on the Alan Moore graphic novel that went on to receive numerous awards and tons of acclaim. That's why the news that Lindelof had no plans to continue the show as he "told the entire story he wanted to tell" in season 1 was a bit of a shocker.

Continuing the trend of bewildering decisions, HBO has decided to honor Lindelof's wishes and won't replace him with another showrunner to continue the story.

However, series star Regina King recently told The Hollywood Reporter that if HBO changes course, she's game to reprise her role as Angela Abar on two conditions - the new season is just as smart as the first, and she knows the show's endgame.

I can see myself being involved in a season two if it was really smart. I would need to know the beginning and the endgame, unlike how this season was. I did not know what the endgame was. I just totally trust [creator] Damon [Lindelof]. There's a part of me that feels like … it's just really hard to think we could top season one, you know?"

If you don't have HBO and have yet to watch the show, Watchmen hits Blu-ray and DVD on June 02.

From Damon Lindelof and set in an alternate history where “superheroes” are treated as outlaws, this drama series embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel of the same name while attempting to break new ground of its own. The cast includes Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Jean Smart, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Hong Chau, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, and James Wolk.

I don’t want it if there’s no Lindelof

It's very funny that HBO is respecting the wishes of the creator of their Watchmen project by not continuing it on his wishes, while DC prequelized, sequelized [twice at the same time], adapted and even made a beat-em-up video game despite Moore's wishes, and that's before they gave Wally West the powers of Dr. Manhattan.
Great show though.

Nah i think we're good.

Not that there isn't any potential, on the contrary...
Matter of fact, i'd like to know wtf happened to Dan and -in a way- you could still tell that story by using the...er...Multiverse, they could STILL explore that even if they don't want to move forward with what Lindelof did, meaning it wont follow S1, but for example have the same cast, cause i'd love that.

Can't have Regina i'm afraid, for obvious reasons.
But Jean Smart or Jeremy? Hell yeah.

We don't need Lindelof for this. They can run it with a rotating creative team like True Detective. And considering the cliffhanger they ended on, I think they already have a solid plan for season 2 and are just being coy about it.

One of the best comic book adaptations imo. Doesn't need another season.
Still can't get over how hot Yahya Abdul-Mateen is.

@WakandanQueen - Just realized one of the reasons why Yahya was such perfect casting, beyond how well he portrayed Manhattan, was that he was a subversion of "young, up-and-coming actor being given the role of a passive love interest" for the first six episodes, the kind of role that a lot of women get cast in for these movies. Also makes his reveal an echo of how Rorscach turned out to be a homeless guy we saw in the background during earlier issues. So good.
Excited to see his take on Morpheus in M4trix next year.

@tmp3 - We need more sexy, stay-at-home dad roles.
