WATCHMEN Trailer Finally Sheds Some Light On What To Expect From The Small Screen Sequel

HBO has released the first teaser trailer for Watchmen &, well, it's pretty weird! It does, however, offer some clues about where things could be going for the sequel/spinoff to the classic graphic novel.

With Game of Thrones winding down on HBO, the cable giant is looking for its next big hit and Watchmen may very well end up filling the void. Now, after months of teases, the first trailer has been released and it does offer at least some insight into the approach the series will be taking.

Set years after the events of the graphic novel, Ozymanidas is now quite a bit older and it seems as if a huge number of people have embraced the Rorschach persona in a bid to serve vigilante justice to those that betrayed them when Dr. Manhattan murdered millions. It appears it's the police that are coming under fire, though, hence why they keep their faces covered.

Beyond that, it's hard to say what's going on, but we do see what appears to be a number of other costumed heroes and Ozymandias definitely seems to be a free man.

More sinister, however, is the fact that the Doomsday Clock is once again counting down!

Check out the trailer below.

This will sound crazy, but 60% of why the original Watchmen works is because of Dave Gibbons.

I'll be watching it, because I like the Watchmen, but I'm cautious.

@Vocloz - same. I know the worst thing a fan can do on the internet these days is openly complain about missing opportunities and what should have happened... but after decades of fans saying "how brilliant would it be if HBO made a Watchmen miniseries and brought EVERY part of the comic to life", and now HBO is actually making a WATCHMEN show but completely stepping over the content we all wanted and instead giving someone the freedom to play in the Watchmen sandbox and take whatever creative liberties he wants with the aftermath of Watchmen. I'd be more inclined to give this a shot if they first set up the Watchmen story we wanted then spun this out of that as the endgame. I just personally hate when the events we all want to see are only referenced in flashbacks or off the cuff dialogue. It feels cheap and lazy to me. Granted I haven't seen how they intend to address the history, but I swear if the events of the entire Watchmen graphic novel is condensed to a minor narration in the opening of the first episode with only flashes of images of the original characters shown in a montage, I stop watching this show immediately.

So Rorschach becomes the symbol of Anonymous/Project Mayhem. Works pretty well.

Intrigued it the optimal word. Beyond that, I need to see more.

Lindelof is great at pulling you in, intriguing you, but its when he has you and he starts getting lost in a rabbit hole of his creation that things get messy.

Doing this as a sequel is the most interesting thing they could do with it.

However, I do have to think that the average HBO viewer is going to ask "What the hell was that?!" after seeing the trailer.
