AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D Ratings Show A Marked Improvement

Things were not looking good for Marvel's first foray into television, with ratings dropping as low as 2.2 at one point. But, last night's Melinda May centric episode showed a pretty big spike -- can it stay the course? More after the jump.

Marvel and ABC's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. began it's run pretty well, with a 4.7 among adults 18-49. But week by week we saw a steady decline (3.3, 2.9, 2.7, 2.5) until it reached its lowest point with a 2.2 a couple of weeks back. But, last week's ep climbed to a 2.4 -- and this week proved that that wasn't just because it was a Thor: The Dark World tie-in, as last night's episode, "Repairs", scored an even higher 2.5. What could be causing the resurgence of viewers? Well in terms of overall quality there is no doubt the show has improved, and last night's episode did focus on one of the more popular characters, Ming-Na Wen's Melinda May. Ultimately the more time you spend finding out about characters who can initially come across as slightly annoying can work wonders -- maybe the series has just settled and found its feet. Of course we'll have to wait and see if things continue this way, but it's a small bit of good news for fans.

Had to be due to T:TDW tie-in and the subsequent hope it gave so many that the show would be worthy of sharing the same universe for once. Alas, last night was awful. Im in no rush to find out about Coulson, I dont expect any popular heroes to show up and I dont even mind the show being about normal human agents. However...
The terrible dialogue & plot, even worse acting and choreography, awful CGI and a ridiculous attempt to give the episode a suspense-thriller vibe would be laughable if not for the fact the show isnt actually funny no matter how hard they try. The worst of it is Coulson is no longer enjoyable to watch or hear, even his walk is so awkward lately. Even May or Ward are not believable combat-trained government operatives.

Marvel never ceases to surprise me, and not in a good way.
And to those who are mentioning Joss Whedon, he only wrote the 1st episode so I cant be mad at him for how the shows been going, but at the same time, its because of him his brother and sister-in-law are showrunners so it is kinda his fault. Sucks to be a fan...

Eps 4, 5, and 6 were way better. Last night was a big step backwards -- meh plot, poorly edited, even the acting seemed lazy.

In a 23 show season you're going to have clunkers, but AoS would benefit from hiring writers from proven shows like Breaking Bad and even Joss' best effort, Firefly. Tim Minear and Jane Espenson would be a good start.

I liked last night's ep a lot..some nice character development for the whole team. I still find Fitzsimmons a tad annoying..but they're growing on me week by week. At the end of the day the show has heart, and yes along with that comes a bit of cheese..but I'll take it.

Those who tuned in early for Dancing with the Star's finale last night and left overs from last weeks Thor tie in, explain the bump. Great show. Piss poor comic book fans for an audience is it's only problem.

People most likely just tuned in to see if it was getting any better (ironicly at the same time) only to discover that it isn't. I watch every episode that comes out outta boredom hoping the pace and stories would improve.

I want to like this show so much and so far have not been impressed. I think the idea would work with some fine tuning, go back and read the old Strange Tales Shield stories, get idea's from there... we need a tighter cast. Not the pretty boys and models. Some characters should be older, more experienced. There needs to be a main villian or organization that slithers in and out of the the continuity (Aim, Hydra, Yellow Claw... something Marvel, something deadly) Hype up the Super and for heaven's sake... give us some of the thousands of characters Marvel brags about... it is a Marvel show, give us Marvel. NCIS is looking better and better.

It is getting better, just as Arrow took at least half of the first season to hit its stride, AoS has begun to find itself. A few bumps here and there, but Arrow has bumps in each episode still, so what, I watch and enjoy both.
