This casting news comes courtesy of TV Guide, who posted the following (exclusive) report:

Acker will appear in at least one episode of the ABC series as Audrey, the famous cellist first mentioned in Marvel's The Avengers as being the love of Phil Coulson's (Clark Gregg) life. A talented musician turning heads in Portland, Audrey believes Coulson to be dead and has no idea that he's guarding her from a distance as a super-powered threat from her past re-emerges.

Acker's casting marks a reunion between the actress and Gregg, who shared the screen in S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producer Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing adaptation. Currently starring on Person of Interest, Acker is also well known for her roles on Whedon's Angel and Dollhouse, where she worked with S.H.I.E.L.D. bosses Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. Her credits also include Once Upon a Time, The Good Wife and Alias.

You might remember that the cellist to whom Coulson was romantically linked was previously referred to this season by Raina whilst tormenting the kidnapped Coulson (in the 11th episode), saying his love had cried for days after his "death". In episode 10, Coulson also described a woman to Ward who had been "particularly rewarding" to him, and spoke of her affectionately.

According to the report, she will first appear in the episode due to broadcast Tuesday, April 22.

This is cool. I wonder if there's going to he more to her, such as her being a spy or something planted to keep an eye on him.

Glad to see them expanding on that character, figured she'd show up eventually

Loved her as Dr. Saunders/Whiskey in Dollhouse.

Yeah, she was great as Dr. Saunders.

I loved Dollhouse. I think it's underappreciated, but I'm a bloody idiot, so it's probably best that nobody listens to a word I say.

I'd die if she turns out to be Jessica Drew, an agent who was spying on Coulson for Hydra. Probably no chance of that happening, but I've been wanting her to be Jessica Drew for a long time now.

They need to bring Fran Kranz (Topher Brink) on this show; I don't think he's getting any work at the moment... The usual suspects would definitely hate his humor, though. But towards the end of Dollhouse he definitely showed his range.

@Comedian03: Um, what? The cellist is probably a HYDRA agent or something. Or HYDRA kidnap her and use her to blackmail Coulson. Either way there will be significance to her.

"This show is failing so hard, on so many levels. I actually had high hopes for it, but man is it a big turd of a disappointment week after week."

Have you even watched the show recently? It has been badass! Oh well, thanfully most people don't agree with your opinion

Actually, she was mentioned on the show. Raina talked about her and how Coulson has been keeping watch on her. So, yeah...this isn't just a "throwaway" line. Also, they discussed her on the episode with Blizzard.

She is my dream cast for Jessica Drew. Did anyone watch Alias? Her character in the final season was incredible. You think she's the usual awkward dorky character she always plays, but she turns out to be an amazing villain. And she was in an episode of Grimm where she was bad too. She's got range. I would die if she was Spider-Woman. It seems a waste to just have her as the Cellist. Please tell me she's at least a spy!
