Early Reviews for the Agents of SHIELD Midseason Finale

Early reviews are in for tomorrow's Agents of SHIELD midseason finale "What They Become," and from the sound of it, we could be seeing some major shakeups in the MCU by the time it's all said and done!

As regular viewers are well aware, Agents of SHIELD has a found a new lease on life in Season 2. Judging by the reactions of at least a couple critics who have already seen the midseason finale, the show will also finally have a major impact on the MCU at large.

io9's Charlie Jane Anders put it simply:

This fall's episodes of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD have been pretty crazy with the twists and the reveals, but tomorrow night's episode — the last until the spring — blows the lid off everything. But more than that, there are a few moments in the episode that will make your jaw drop, and become become instant GIF classics. (One moment in particular made me jump out of my chair and go "YES.")

Over at Forbes, the reaction from Merrill Barr was similar:

The mid-season finale of Marvel’s grand television experiment also does something it has yet to, play in specific worlds before the films do. Of course it’s impossible to dive to heavily into what that means without venturing into major spoiler territory, but what can be said is where the episode goes in its final act is to a place few ever expected the series would dare. For the first time, it truly feels as if S.H.I.E.L.D.’s acting from a proactive position rather than the reactionary one we saw during all of its freshman season. Come the appearance of the final emblem in 2014 before the “post-credit scene,” audiences will be left uneasy and unsure of how to think in the best of ways.

While both reviewers seem hesitent to reveal any spoilers (It's Inhumans, right? It has to be Inhumans), we'll all find out soon enough! Let the speculation begin in the comments below!

Marvel's Agents of SHIELD airs tomorrow night, December 9, at 9 PM Eastern on ABC.

Damn.. That sounds awesome.

Even if we all think it's Inhumans at this point, do we really expect Coulson and Co. to make it to Attilan in the show?
I still doubt they'll actually get there, and if they do that'd be ridiculously jaw-dropping indeed.

""Play in Specific Worlds before films do""... C'mon guys.... Does that not scream INHUMANS based on the recent clues and build up that we have had in the show?

@Pedrito- honestly the city they find will most likely be a city where the Inhumans USE to live (First abandoned version of Attilan possibly) and the Inhumans had already left years ago

[frick]ing INHUMANS. HELL YEAH

Like @Marvel1997 said, it's probably an old inhuman city. The real Atillan and the royal family will show up until the movie or Infinity War 1

I just came back from watching AoS S2 up to the last episode with a friend. She started watching the show not too long ago, and I watched with her from a few episodes before the Hydra reveal on. The second half of S1 and all of S2 are a really exciting experience, especially when watched without longer breaks in between episodes. :D

grif - terrible comments.

Doesn't it get tiresome being that obtuse? I mean, you really have to work hard to be so negative about something you don't actually watch or claim to care about...

Show keeps getting better and better each week. Can't wait to see what's in store tomorrow night.

The show has gotten so good this season. I'm really excited to see what happens tomorrow. I have a feeling it'll have something to do with Whitehall, Ward, and Skyes Father.

@grif I know how you feel I used to hate it to. But it is getting better. The characters are lame but the storylines have improved. lots of Marvel elements which is what makes it cool. it now seems like secret agents that could only exist within the marvel universe.

if Black Bolt shouted no everybody would die and the city would be reduced to rubble

@PeterDarker121

I watched the pilot with her a few weeks after it aired, and she didn't like it all that much back then. The last weeks she often had some time to fill between her kids going to bed and her husband being back from work and I urged her to give the show another chance, a warning about the first episodes dragging a bit included.

She wasn't too thrilled about the first few episodes, but after that she was pretty much hooked. Around the end of the season she was ridiculously hyped. ^^'
