DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Star Charlie Cox Suggests His Matt Murdock Is A "Variant" And Not Netflix Version

There's a lot of debate surrounding whether the MCU's Daredevil is the same "Variant" as the one we saw on Netflix, and actor Charlie Cox has now suggested this Man Without Fear is a brand new character.

The likes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Daredevil, and Inhumans were produced by Marvel Television, a division that had as much involvement with Marvel Studios as The CW did with the DCEU. Now, with Kevin Feige in charge of everything, questions about the canonicity of those TV shows continue to be raised by fans.

Anson Mount turned up as a comic-accurate Black Bolt in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, while Charlie Cox's Daredevil and Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin have recently appeared in the likes of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Hawkeye. This has definitely muddied the waters.

Wilson Fisk is now considerably more powerful than his Netflix predecessor, for example, tearing a car door off with ease! As a result, it seems safe to assume that, while the actors are the same, these are the MCU's Variants of the characters and not the Daredevil and Kingpin we saw a few years back on Disney+'s rival streaming service.

During a recent interview with inews.co.uk, Cox actually dropped the V-Bomb!

"I don’t think it’s a different character. I just think it’s maybe a different period of his life. I don’t think my interpretation will change – they hired the same actor. We’re saying this is a whole new...era, or Variant?" the actor said, pausing, before adding, "I haven’t read the scripts, so I don’t know. But, like, it’s part of the Multiverse?"

"The only way I’ll change is if, tonally, the show is very different," Cox concluded.

Reading between the lines here, we'd expect some very vague references to the past in Daredevil: Born Again, but, as Cox has previously said, not Daredevil season 4!

This type of fresh start makes sense and is a great way of finding a balance between continuing the stories of characters fans love with the same actors, while not forcing Marvel Studios to be beholden to Marvel Television's creative decisions. We've actually heard that Chloe Bennet will return as Quake in a future project, but don't expect her to have that Inhuman backstory.

GOD DAMN IT! Why does Fegie feel the need to eradicate all the Netflix shows?! Also GOD DAMN IT AGAIN with this variant bullshit! After Secret Wars, they really need to just shut the door on the multiverse.

@FilmGuy7878 - Because most of them sucked.

@FilmGuy7878 - only one show was consistently solid to amazing and that was DD. A true gem (season 2 had an average second half).

JJ after season 1 was mediocre
LC season 1 was amazing until Cottonnouth died but season 2 was pretty good
Iron Fist was ass
Punisher had its moments but was really all over the place outside of Bernthal’s magnetic performance
Defenders was a mess

Yes, the Netflix shows were a breath of fresh air but as a whole it was messy

@PlusUltra - The first season of Daredevil is 100 times better than most of the shit in Phase 4.

Jessica Jones was good but it had a lot of untapped potential, same with Luke Cage.

But Iron Fist sucked ass.

Daredevil had balls, it had genuine characters, genuine emotion, raw violence, and it doesn't pull any punches with touchy topics like religion and morality. The MCU doesn't have the balls to do half of those things now a days. Once in a great while, we get a NWH, a Werewolf By Night, a Wakanda Forever, a First Avenger, a GOTG, things that aren't afraid to give us something unique, something outside the box, something genuine, grounded in emotion, and straight from the heart.

@GhostDog - I'll give you that it was messy but they should try to fix and intergrate the cannon they already have instead of just throwing it out. Repurpose these characters and storylines into something more.

Jessica Jones teaming up with Howard the Duck to solve a murder case.

A Heroes for Hire Special Presentation starring Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Misty Knight, and Paladin.

Punisher hunting down Spider-Man.

Keep the development they had in their respective series and use that development to your advantage to further the characters in the main universe.

Someone show this to Feige. We need it

@GhostDog - IKR. Get Keke Palmer as Misty, Joel McHale as Paladin, and bring back Mike Colter and Finn Jones (seriously he deserves a second chance) as Luke and Danny (or if they wanna recast, Mehcad Brooks as Luke and Max Huang as Danny) and we'll be golden.

@FilmGuy7878 - Because with Perlmutter he had not control. It's why the AOS tie ins to the larger MCU inevitably died down once Perlmutter was out.

@The1st - I could never really get into AOS tbh. I know they did things with Coulson, Quake, the Inhumans, Absorbing Man, Mr. Hyde, and stuff but basically that's all I know.

@FilmGuy7878 - Yeah, I think most of it was mothballed especially once they got into Inhumans and the shift at Marvel at large went back to the X-Men.

@The1st - Yeah for a long time the Inhumans were pushed to the forefront as the X-Men's replacements even though they were more related to the FF than any other team in the Marvel universe.
