Marvel TV Boss Jeph Loeb Offers A Lame Excuse For Why Avengers Tower Is Never Seen On The Small Screen

For some reason, we've never seen Avengers Tower in any of Marvel's Netflix TV shows and now Jeph Loeb has offered an explanation as to why and it's far from convincing. In fact, it's downright laughable!

The New York skyline has been shown in shows like Daredevil and The Defenders on numerous occasions but Avengers Tower hasn't appeared even once. While some fans have assumed that it's because these shows take place shortly after the events of The Avengers, that doesn't explain why Stark Tower - either damaged or undergoing repairs - has never once been spotted on Netflix.

Well, Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb has now shed some light on why that is and his explanation is unconvincing, to say the least. The reality is that there's a huge divide between the movie and television departments and that we might as well accept now that these shows aren't in the MCU.

"I think it’s much more that we look at it from the point of view of “where are we?” and having to establish that along the way. In many ways, being less specific helps the audience understand that this could be on any street corner. Where we’re sitting right now, I can see the Empire State Building, but if we were sitting 30 blocks that way, I wouldn’t be able to see the Empire State Building. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. It just means that we can’t see it from where we are."

That's a pretty ridiculous explanation and one which isn't remotely convincing! The fact is, Marvel Studios has made no effort to bring characters like Daredevil and Luke Cage to the big screen - they could easily make a cameo appearance in Avengers: Infinity War - and the TV division clearly isn't clued in on what's on the way on the big screen as the shows never reflect events like the Sokovia Accords.

Cost savings is the actual answer he's looking for.

@FunkyDormammu -@FunkyDormammu - I don't find anything wrong with this Explanation having been to Manhattan numerous times. Maybe if Josh didn't live in England he would not think it was so ridiculous. I will say this is one of the dumbest articles yet from this greedy little…

@SpideyQuad - Really? If you don't like Josh, thats one thing. But this is a ridiculous excuse. There's no way around that.

Sure, he's right in saying you can't see every building from every street corner in Manhattan. But MCU movies go out of their way to show Avengers tower. Even in movies where it plays no part.

So they could show it if they wanted.

Cost efficiency is the real answer. This is an excuse. Plain and simple.

Is the Avengers tower in the background of every Marvel comic issue? I didn't realise that this was a vital precedent.

@SpideyQuad - if the question were "why don't you show the avengers tower MORE OFTEN" then sure, what you say makes sense. You don't always see the buildings from where you are in the city. But the question was why it isn't shown AT ALL

The shows don't really reflect the Sokovia Accords or even the Chitauri invasion, but at least they mention said events in at least 3 shows that I remember of, which proves the TV shows are de facto part of the MCU. I agree it's really sad that those characters aren't included in practice though, because Daredevil, Elektra, Punisher, Jessica or Luke are perfect in their roles.

It would also be easy to make a link to create the jump one day. Making them appear in an Avengers movie or guesting here and there would feel shoehorned, but having for example Maria Hill covertly run the Defenders in the second season, or Sharon Carter try and tame Misty and Coleen like in the comics, get in their way, or something among those line with a B lister from the movies, would slowly include those characters in the bigger MCU. Then the jump could be made seamlessly.

One day maybe, let's hope. And also one day, a Netflix Moon Knight show, or a Blade reboot. Or a different kind of show. Marvel and Netflix have said they wanted another female-led show, I'd like to see something like Superia's rise to power at AIM. Her life story.

The movies are their own world. The TV stuff plays in the same universe (in its own mind), but it's not canon in the films. The TV stuff is like the friend who is cool, but wasn't invited to the senior party and isn't allowed in.
