Mike Colter Discusses Luke Cage's Possible Advisory Role In THE DEFENDERS

The first season of Marvel's Luke Cage has come and gone, but it's a good thing we know that Harlem's hero will be making his return in Marvel's The Defenders, and it looks like he has some wisdom to share.

Marvel and Netflix's Luke Cage has taken over the internet this past weekend with the release of its first season, and fans can't wait to see what the Power Man (Mike Colter) has in store when he returns in 2017 for Marvel's The Defenders. The hero has already had a run in with Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), establishing a brief romantic relationship, but he has yet to meet the Devil of Hell's Kitchen and the Young Dragon. Of course, when the four heroes eventually do team-up, Luke Cage might not want to take on a leadership role just yet.

"Luke comes with a certain amount of emotional depth," Mike Coulter told Variety. "As a black man in today’s culture, what he represents and what he’s dealing with in his own life — being a fugitive on the run but being innocent, but at the same time not feeling sorry for himself — he’s always thinking about the community, and thinking about things in a larger sense in his life. He wants more than just this thing that he’s doing now — it was kind of thrust upon him. He’s very thoughtful about his actions. He has no agenda with his powers. He’s seen what helping out leads to; he doesn’t see the point. It never ends well. He doesn’t have a costume, he doesn’t have a mask, everybody knows who he is. So I think he brings a certain gravitas that says, “I don’t want to rush to judgment about anyone. I don’t want to do anything until we just talk about this, because everything has a consequence.” I see him as the consigliere of the group."

Do you think Luke Cage should be the one in charge of The Defenders?

We all know who the leader is going to be.

Matt is too hot-headed, Jessica is too damaged, and Danny is too unfocused (probably) to be the leader. Luke's the only one who's got his shit together. He's the Steve Rogers/Scott Summers/Bruce Wayne of this foursome.

Matt is too much of a hot head to lead. Luke has the temperament and level head to lead. He'll put people in their place when he has to as well.

Not to mention, he's former FORCE RECON, as well as being former sheriff. He's leading.

Wonder if he heard of Frank while serving.

I really hope the authority is shared between Matt and Luke. You have Jessica and Luke, who are lovers, you have Luke and Danny who are best buds that are fundamentally characters created from the same time, they're 70's love letters. But then you have a white blind dude with a level head and some anger issues, and then a bulletproof, rational, well rounded average joe(that gets a lot of ass, ahem). Sooooo, what do they share? A sense of authority and stoic personality, maybe this is how they will connect them as characters, because they're the two hardest to create a dynamic, yet they're arguably the most similar IN A WAY(I'm speaking mainly from a sense of attitude). I really hope they challenge our expectations of the group dynamics at first, though. It would be hilarious if Danny and Luke didn't like each other that much at first because of Misty, and maybe Danny is way more buddy-buddy with Matt, due to their mystical ninja roots.

Spoilers if you haven't watched the show but can someone tell why Luke was in Seagate? What was he framed for? I really enjoyed the show but I'm irritated I don't know that answer.

@WinterSoldier22 - They kind of changed it from the comics. From what I understand tho, Luke was framed by Diamondback for something he didn't do
