RUMOR: Mephisto Will Be The Big Bad Of THE DEFENDERS To Set Up Supernatural Marvel Shows On Netflix

With Comic-Con right around the corner, the comic book movie news cycle has pretty much ground to a halt, but at least we have what is probably a fairly ridiculous rumour to get us through the weekend! Earlier this week, Screen Geek ran a story claiming that they've learned the identity of the big bad that Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage are set to team-up to take down in The Defenders.
Who is it? Well, Marvel is apparently considering using Mephisto. That's a pretty unexpected choice, but with Doctor Strange and Iron Fist adding a supernatural element to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it could work. The site also claims that it's being done to help set up the next wave of Marvel shows on Netflix, and they go on to mention long rumoured titles like Blade, Ghost Rider, and Moon Knight.
There are a couple of problems with this story. For starters, this is the same site that claimed Vincent D'Onofrio would be reprising the role of The Kingpin in Spider-Man: Homecoming (something the actor has since denied). Also, the signs are currently pointing to this team assembing to take on The Hand, but Mephisto would arguably be a much more interesting option. With shooting set to begin later this year, we'll learn more soon, and based on past experience, that will be at the New York Comic-Con.
