RUMOR: Mephisto Will Be The Big Bad Of THE DEFENDERS To Set Up Supernatural Marvel Shows On Netflix

It's a slow news day and you're going to want to take this with a massive pinch of salt, but there's a story doing the rounds that Mephisto is going to be the big bad of Marvel and Netflix's The Defenders...

With Comic-Con right around the corner, the comic book movie news cycle has pretty much ground to a halt, but at least we have what is probably a fairly ridiculous rumour to get us through the weekend! Earlier this week, Screen Geek ran a story claiming that they've learned the identity of the big bad that Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage are set to team-up to take down in The Defenders

Who is it? Well, Marvel is apparently considering using Mephisto. That's a pretty unexpected choice, but with Doctor Strange and Iron Fist adding a supernatural element to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it could work. The site also claims that it's being done to help set up the next wave of Marvel shows on Netflix, and they go on to mention long rumoured titles like Blade, Ghost Rider, and Moon Knight

There are a couple of problems with this story. For starters, this is the same site that claimed Vincent D'Onofrio would be reprising the role of The Kingpin in Spider-Man: Homecoming (something the actor has since denied). Also, the signs are currently pointing to this team assembing to take on The Hand, but Mephisto would arguably be a much more interesting option. With shooting set to begin later this year, we'll learn more soon, and based on past experience, that will be at the New York Comic-Con.

I'm still betting for Shadowland with Kingpin as the head instead of Daredevil for the big bad of Defenders. Mephisto doesn't really make sense, since he's pretty much the devil of the MCU he's almost too big of a threat for the defenders.

@Mrcool210 - You're def on point with the Shadowland thing, but it'll most likely be Elektra leading the Hand. Kingpin will be back for DD Season 3.

@SnapperCarr - I would think Elektra would come back in DD Season 3 to take full advantage of the born again storyline. Where as doing Shadowland with Kingpin would get more fans excited to see Wilson Fisk again.

@Mrcool210 - The thing is, I don't think they want to carry the Hand plot further after the Defenders. Particularily how the Hand subplot really didn't mesh well with the rest of DD Season 2.

You can still have Elektra for the Born Again storyline because I'm confident DD will be trying to turn her good and away from the Hand over the course of the Defenders.

@Mrcool210 - You mean Kingpin would be the one to get possessed bynthe Hand and turn evil?

That kind of defeats the whole purpose of the story. Shadowland would need to have Daredevil become possessed and turned evil. It wouldn't make sense to have possess an already evil character. It loses a giant piece of the impact.

@Mrcool210 - I'm afraid that If Elektra comes back they'll start to revive a ton of people and the show will become a joke, which I really don't want it to be. That's also why I didn't like Jessica Jones as much as Daredevil, I thought they were taking a more realistic approach but the super-strength was just tacky.

I know that it was comic-accurate but still...

@Viilax - I agree how they did her powers wasn't the best; I also didn't like how her powers weren't really clear she could lift a car but struggled fighting Luke like seriously in the comics Jess actually was the same strength wise with Spiderman (10 tons) and she could Fly which they didn't make clear if she really could or couldn't I think they didn't cause of how she said in the comics that she could easily learn to fly better but she's just to lazy to try learning

Wow, if this is true. Then I wonder how Netflix will pull this off and hopefully this means that Ghost Rider is on the way.
