There's a huge amount of intrigue surrounding Echo, especially after the character's recent introduction in Hawkeye. Portrayed as an antagonist of sorts, we'd later learn that Maya Lopez had been born into a life of crime and manipulated by The Kingpin into heading down a dark route.
By the time all was said and done in Clint Barton and Kate Bishop's Christmastime adventure, Maya had gunned Wilson Fisk down and seemingly found some redemption.
We're intrigued to see where she goes from here, though, especially with rumours that Daredevil will be part of Echo (potentially setting the stage for her to then appear in his series). While time will tell on that front, a new behind the scenes photo from the set of the upcoming Disney+ series has revealed what looks like an updated logo for the show. It's pretty cool and quite a bit different to the one previously released by Marvel Studios. Sadly, it doesn't reveal anything new beyond that!
We recently learned that this origin story for Echo revisits Maya Lopez, whose ruthless behaviour in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.
It's was also revealed that Echo will star Chaske Spencer (Wild Indian, The English), Tantoo Cardinal (Killers of the Flower Moon, Stumptown), Devery Jacobs (FX’s Reservation Dogs, American Gods) and Cody Lightning (Hey, Viktor!, Four Sheets to the Wind), with Graham Greene (1883, Goliath) and Zahn McClarnon (Dark Winds).
Episodes of Echo are directed by Sydney Freeland (Navajo) and Catriona McKenzie (Gunaikurnai), while Marvel Studios has confirmed that a 2023 premiere is planned for the series.
