THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER Star Anthony Mackie Compares Disney+ Series To A Six-Hour Movie

We still don't really know what to expect from the Marvel Studios TV shows coming to Disney+, but The Falcon and The Winter Soldier star Anthony Mackie has made it clear they will be just like the movies.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is (hopefully) still coming our way this August, and with the series establishing a new Captain America for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's definitely going to be unmissable for fans of this shared work. However, based on what we saw from the likes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Runaways, just how different will these TV shows be from the films?

During a recent interview with Variety, The Falcon actor Anthony Mackie made it clear that the first true Marvel Studios TV series will ultimately be indistinguishable from what we see on the big screen.

"We're shooting it exactly like a movie," The Falcon and The Winter Soldier star confirmed. "Everybody who had worked on TV before was like, 'I've never worked on a TV show like this.' The way in which we were shooting, it feels exactly like we were shooting the movie cut up into the show. So instead of a two-hour movie, a six or eight-hour movie."

Production on the series was halted due to COVID-19, but it's thought that work will resume as soon as next month, so there's a strong chance it will premiere as planned on Disney+ this August.

Mackie's comments about The Falcon and The Winter Soldier definitely bode well for the quality of these TV shows, though the brief sneak peek we got during the Super Bowl looked fantastic. With any luck, a full trailer isn't too far away, and we'll be sure to keep you guys updated on that front.

@Tonic24k - Agree, I love Marvel Netflix because each season was a 13 hr movie.

Only Defenders and S2 of some series felt like they were made for a weekly format.

@mastakilla39 - I don't. Imo the non episodic format was part of the problem with the later seasons of the Netflix series. If the writing was exceptional you could get away with it but if it wasn't it made things much worse. That said there is a huge difference between a 6 hour movie and a 13 hour one. As always YMMV.

Can't wait to get going with season 2 of the MCU. Already one episode down into season two and it's on a lengthy mid-season break.

This is the one series I've really been waiting all year for just release this already. While visually these shows will be better than the Marvel Netflix ones and the others like Cloak And Dagger & The Runaways, these Marvel Disney+ shows won't be as good nor have the same story depth as those shows.

Didn't really expect otherwise with comments made by Feige for example. Still, I'm kinda bummed if it doesn't have an episodic format too

@MalseMarcel - If it is 8 episodes, and the story unfolds across all 8, then it will be episodic by nature. I don't expect that the Marvel series will suffer from the padding that many longer format series suffer from, where an episode feels very much like just a filler to pad the episode count.

This is the one show I've really been anticipating love these two characters in the comics, but while visually these shows will be spectacular I don't think the Disney+ Marvel show will be as good as the outside Marvel TV stuff Netflix, hulu ect... Nor have the story depth those show had.
