THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER Star Anthony Mackie Unsure Of Season 2 Or Big Screen Plans For Sam Wilson

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier arrives on Disney+ later this month, and while it's not quite as mysterious as WandaVision, there's definitely a lot we still don't know about the series.

At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers passed the mantle of Captain America to Sam Wilson, but in the show, it's John F. Walker (better known as U.S. Agent to comic book fans) who's wielding the shield.

It's not exactly a well-kept secret that Sam will eventually become Cap, and in an interview with Variety, actor Anthony Mackie elaborated on how it feels to take on such an iconic role.

"I was really surprised and affected by the idea of possibly getting the shield and becoming Captain America," he admits. "I’ve been in this business a long time, and I did it the way they said you’re supposed to do it. I didn’t go to L.A. and say, ‘Make me famous.’ I went to theater school, did Off Broadway, did indie movies and worked my way through the ranks. It took a long time for this shit to manifest itself the way it has, and I’m extremely happy about that."

However, taking up such an important mantle comes with a certain set of responsibilities, and Mackie says he's feeling pressure heading into The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

"I didn’t think we could do on the television what we’d been doing on the big screen. I didn’t want to be the face of the first Marvel franchise to fail. Like, ‘See? We cast the Black dude, and now this shit is awful.’ That was a huge fear of mine, and also a huge responsibility with playing a Marvel character."

The trade notes that the actor told them there have been no discussions about a second season, while he's also unsure what the future holds for Sam Wilson on the big screen. Captain America will always be pivotal to the MCU, so we're bound to see more of him eventually, and possibly in his own movie.

We'll have to wait and see on that front, but expect more details on The Falcon and The Winter Soldier soon. After all, that March 19th premiere is now right around the corner...

I mean, if he becomes the new Captain America, which everyone knows he does, then there's no way he doesn't get a movie or show. You can't have Captain America in the MCU and only have him show up in other people's shows and movies.

I like that he felt the weight of responsibility, inheriting the mantle and the spotlight. Life imitating art.

In general people on TV are always coy when it comes to sophomore seasons during PR for their first season run.
Remember interviews during Legends of Tomorrow's first year or Agent Carter's first season?
It's always a mix of "right now this is a limited series" or "I'm unsure of the shows future, right now we only have one season planned".

It's general lingo for "if it's successful there will be a second season".

Same goes for this and Wandavision: if D+ wants another season it will get one. Every show will be planting potential seeds for more.
Wandavision with White Vision and FatWS will do so as well.

There's barely a successful limited series that truly stays "limited"

It definitely wouldn’t be the first Marvel franchise to fail. I understand his point though

I understand his worrier, but I'm sure this won't fail. And I hope he becomes the face of the new Avengers. If there's a captain in charge, I want that to be Sam.

Also, he must've enjoyed being called Cap all the time in Outside the Wire

This Falcon and WS series looks like a good movie already. I’m sure it will be awesome.as for whether some of these MCU series get second seasons I could care less. MCU movies and Disney plus series are all set in the same universe and contain a character arc inside a bigger story so I’m ok with some one off series and maybe evolving some of these series into spin-offs for more solo or group series.
I’m hoping a thunderbolts movie or series happens sometime down the road.

I just re-watched winter soldier, age of Ultron, and Civil War. I have watched infinity war and endgame recently enough. One of my kids are excited for this show. Not much longer!
