THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER Star Daniel Brühl Teases Zemo's Masterplan, Wearing The Mask, And More

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier star Daniel Brühl has teased Zemo's masterplan in the Disney+ series, while also shedding some light on what the villain has been up to since Captain America: Civil War.

The last time we saw Zemo, he'd managed to tear the Avengers in two and was being kept in a prison cell. A lot of time has passed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Captain America: Civil War was released in 2016, and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier star Daniel Brühl has shared some insight into what the villain has been up to since his capture.

"He's had a lot of time in that prison cell to read a lot, to think a lot," the actor tells Entertainment Weekly. "So, you can be sure that he's up to no good."

Brühl went on to reveal that Malcolm Spellman, the showrunner of the Disney+ series, actually flew to Canada while he was shooting The Alienist in 2019 with a mysterious suitcase containing Zemo's classic mask.

"That was a very special, exciting moment for me. We would see Zemo now finally in that iconic outfit." Brühl added that the inclusion of the mask changed his performance in the series, teasing the character's "aristocratic background" and admitting he "felt like I'm a baron."

As for what Zemo has planned in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, it sounds like he's very much on a mission to bring an end to superheroes given what happened to his family in Sokovia.

"It is true that Zemo in the past, and possibly also in the present, is strictly against super-soldiers, because he has seen the danger that this can cause. That is why he has lost his whole family in the Sokovian war. This is something that bothers Zemo and makes him think a lot."

So, it definitely sounds like we're in store for something special with Zemo in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and the stage will hopefully be set for the villain to be a recurring threat in the MCU.

After all, the Thunderbolts do need a leader...

This only reinforces my idea tgat Zemo is gonna work with Falcon and Bucky. At first he saw all super people as bad, but now he sees some as necessary evil.

Would be cool if in teamimg up Zemo makes them question the necessary existence of a new Cap, only for Falcon and Bucky to realize Zemo is still too extreme in his ideologie.

Possible, but it's also possible that he'll just be using his own "superheroes" in the form of those flag-smashers hopped up on super soldier serum.

@Humperdink - could work with Falcon and Bucky, or with the Flag Smashers. Either way, I guess he has set aside part of his ideology of "all superpeople bad"

They have to. He is one of the iconic villains and they invested a lot in setting that up. I see him with AIM but having him team up with Zemo would be rad beyond belief.

I read somewhere that he wears it to taunt Bucky and Sam with Thanos. That would actually work very well in explaining why all of a sudden the mask.

I’m loving Marvel going with classic costumes for literally every character now, Scarlet Witch, Falcon, Zemo.. hope they keep it up. They’ve always been good with the costumes but some just didn’t have a costume at all.. please give the new Wolverine a beautiful yellow costume with his mask, oh and cast an actor who is under 5”7 there are great short actors out there, people don’t have to be tall 😂 Also can Hawkeye wear purple in his series for once lol

@JohnCastillo - I don't even necessarily care if hes short. Honestly Egerton is perfect height and build for the character.

@HydraB0b - Ultimately ofcourse it’s about any actor nailing it rather than what he looks like. Hugh Jackman is tall and he was amazing... But it does matter to the fan boy in me, ofcourse me being 5’7 myself I’d kinda want that representation 😂😂 Egerton not bad, other short actors, Josh Hutcherson, Daniel Radcliffe, Moíses Arias... Tom Cruise could have worked 20 years ago, or James McAvoy if he hadn’t been Professor X. Or my preference is just go for an unknown short dude lol. If Marvel want to go legit faithful with the costume and the height, then even Egerton is too tall, 5’9 isn’t exactly short.

@JohnCastillo - yeah but with witch classic costume end of series she didn’t look like stripper dancer stockings and corset it was more realistic less stripper like

@HydraB0b - what I always say stupid racist fan casting go by looks and height it’s not best on looks it’s who can get job done

@dragon316 - Yeah they were right not to go for the Scarlet Witch stripper suit 🤣 By the way what’s racist about fan casting? I agree it’s not about looks. But say Marvel sent out a casting call “we’re looking for actors 5’7 or under in height to play a rough, angry superhero type” and then just choose the best from the pile.. unknown might be even better for a role like Wolverine.
