THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER: Today's Episode Included An Intriguing Hint About Steve Rogers - SPOILERS

Five episodes into The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and we still don't know where Steve Rogers is. Well, today's episode of the Disney+ series offered us at least a couple of potential clues...

By JoshWilding - Apr 16, 2021 06:04 AM EST

At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Steve Rogers travelled back in time for his happy ending with Peggy Carter. Captain America grew old in that timeline, and then returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to give Sam Wilson his shield. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has yet to reveal what happened to him next (well, aside from some jokes about him being on the moon).

Of course, Joaquín Torres' cluelessness about Steve's whereabouts means that, if he's dead, a public funeral wasn't held and his passing wasn't announced to the world at large.

The plot thickened in today's episode - read our recap by clicking here - when Sam and Bucky started talking about their friend. As the latter discussed the legacy of the shield, The Falcon said "I understand that, but Steve is gone. This might be a surprise, but it doesn't matter what Steve thought."

Out of context, that doesn't sound great, but Sam was just explaining that Bucky needs to stop letting others tell him who he is and be his own man. Later, the former Winter Soldier points out, "We're also a couple of guys with a mutual friend" to which Sam responded, "But that friend's now gone."

So, Steve is "gone." That's extremely vague, and if The Falcon and The Winter Soldier ends without explaining the original Captain America's fate, fans are likely to be unhappy. Something tells us we could see Chris Evans make a cameo in the finale, but if Cap's status isn't addressed in this series, then who knows when and where it will happen in Phase 4.

What do you think the deal with Steve Rogers is?

He's not dead. Just being vague to be vague.

@BlackBeltJones - I don't think he's on the moon or hanging out with Sharon in Madripor. So those are two places you don't have to look.

@tugboy - he’s probably in some underground bunker in Brooklyn lol

@BlackBeltJones - It's worth noting that if you watch the show with German subtitles (I'm watching from Berlin), the translation for the line explicitly says "Steve is dead". Not sure what it's like in other languages.

@NHartMusic - wow!!! It’s simply gone here in English. That’s interesting

I think the simple explanation and more likely one would be he went back to the Timeline where he married with Peggy, after passing the shield to Sam in Endgame. Even if she died, he probably had kids with her, grandchild, ect. and would be weird for him to just abandon his family in that timeline to live alone and hidden in the main one.

It's purposely vague to leave the door open "in case" they want to/can tell another Steve Rogers story.

That's just being vagueness for the sake of it. Him being gone could either mean he's dead, in an unknown location, away.

I've always figured after he lived the life he wanted to with peggy he went back to being iced. That way he around if he's ever needed again. If I was a betting man I would say next week ends with Bucky and Sam visiting a facility were you see a pod iced over with the name Roger's at the top. This way we know what happens to Steve and they dont need to show Chris Evans.

I suspect it's just Marvel hedging their bets and making sure nothing definitive is said as they don't know yet if they'll bring him back or not. So we'll probably not find out anything conclusive either way.

He's either dead or returned to his old timeline. Regardless, let the man rest.

Some good moments in this. A nice callback to why bucky doesn't use his metal arm. I was shocked they used Walker as a baseball bat. That was so awesome. Their fight choreography are so WWF or WWE inspired (Sort of). Some great stunt coordinators behind the scenes that really make the fights look unique and cool. Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine was that big cameo from an actress we had never seen in the MCU. Bravo marvel for getting everyone hyped and talking about this show. Hopefully we actually find out what happened to Steve Rogers next week. My guess is he died or is on ice in Wakanda. But who knows. Not sure I agree he would just go back back to the timeline that Peggy was in. MCU time travel is confusing and its all semantics. If she died in that timeline and he continued to live out his days sounds a bit boring. Maybe that's what Steve wanted. They left it vague to keep us guessing and keep the door open to possible return. With Wyatt Russel coming into the Marvel family 10 years after the intro and news about him originally auditioning for Captain America I have come to realize Marvel has a plan and they are prepared for anything. Chris Evans could come back in the future if they leave it as vague as possible. I was hoping they would show Sams cap suit or whatever was in the box but thats a good surprise for the last episode.

I think he’s just chilling in a cabin somewhere like Wanda minding his own damn business. He served and now he’s leaving it to others bc he can’t anymore. I think he’s still alive but just trying to enjoy what time he has left

@Ha1frican - I agree. If Marvel is smart (Which they are) they will keep him around in the background, reference him a couple of times and not kill him on or off screen. If you kill your character then you can only use that character again if you reboot or bring that same character in from a different universe. But if you let a character live on in the background doing their own thing you can tell more interesting stories about that character when they make their return.

I'm still waiting for the Omega Red cameo.

Maybe Mephisto will show up in the season finale.

I think he's still alive, but as far as the world is concerned he is dead. Young looking Steve is suddenly MIA, although it was hinted he just retired.

“Gone” is just a way for Marvel to leave the door open for Chris to comeback in the future. A lot less definitive than “Dead”.

How about we just send time through Steve instead
