As expected, the latest episode of Hawkeye brought Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk/Kingpin back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Of course, fans have a lot of questions, including whether the events of Daredevil will be considered canon or if we're getting a new Variant of the villain minus any of that Marvel Television baggage (remember, Marvel Studios had no creative involvement in those shows).
Talking to Insider, the directors of the last three episodes of the Disney+ series, Bert and Bertie, told fans to "Tune in on Wednesday for Episode 6" for answers about whether D'Onofrio is playing the same Kingpin. They also addressed theories that Fisk might be the new owner of Avengers Tower, with Bertie teasing: "Keep the theories going. We love every single one and we love avoiding every single question about it." That's a "wait and see," then!
The duo also recently caught up BuzzFeed, and inadvertently confirmed that The Kingpin will see some action in the Hawkeye finale by seemingly referencing D'Onofrio's stunt double.
"The thing about Vincent is he and his doubles would arrive under cloaks because no one could see them," Bert explained. "We were filming some things in public places and we had to get them to set. We realized the scale of how important it was to keep it a secret, so we would smuggle them in under black cloaks. Vincent and his doubles too because once you see his double, you would know it's Kingpin. It was really fun to see how we keep the secrecy in this Marvel world."
As for that big reveal at the end of episode 5, Bertie revealed that there were multiple ideas for how to introduce Fisk. "It was always going to be big, and there were a few iterations of how the Kingpin reveal was going to happen," Bertie said. "So, it was a real pleasure to be part of that."
Tthe Hawkeye finale is shaping up to be one of the biggest MCU TV episodes yet, likely setting the stage for some major future stories. After all, there's no way Clint and Kate are taking down The Kingpin this soon, especially with Echo on the way and perhaps even Charlie Cox's Man Without Fear...
