Marvel Studios released Assembled: The Making of Hawkeye on Disney+ yesterday, and a decent chunk of the hourlong documentary is devoted to Vincent D'Onofrio's Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Wilson Fisk. We don't get any real hints about what the future might hold in store for the Kingpin of Crime, though the comic panel with Echo shooting the villain is shown (and if you're familiar with that story, you'll know Fisk is blinded, and not killed, by Maya Lopez).
The special does elaborate on what led to The Kingpin's return following his role in Daredevil, though, with executive producer Brad Winderbaum explaining that they needed "someone powerful" to "make Eleanor Bishop shake in her boots and Hawkeye, you know, get a little bit afraid."
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige elaborated, stating "When you talk about organized crime in the Marvel Universe and you talk about the seedy underbelly of New York City, there is one primary character that comes to mind." Producer Trinh Tran revealed everyone's shocked reaction to Feige's suggestion that they bring D'Onofrio back, confirming he was the one to reach out to the actor.
On that point, the Daredevil alum recalls, "He said 'I want to bring you into the MCU' and I’m not gonna say no to that. That’s pretty awesome!"
It was amazing to see The Kingpin again, and while some fans were disappointed that his story seemed to end so abruptly, common sense says we'll see him return in the Echo series coming to Disney+. D'Onofrio and the character are too good to put back on the shelf, so we're sure Feige has something planned.
